I agree with Jasmine’s post when she said that displaying art in the public can really bring a lot of character to a community and may even brighten up a dark and dreary section of town. Displaying art in the community will develop appreciation of a broader and diversified understanding of art for the people. To illustrate, by displaying the work of ordinary citizens in distinct communities will increase awareness of current events and lives of the artists as a way to express their outlook in life. As people become more aware of diverse populations, they are encouraged to learn about the behaviors and concerns of real people who live in their community. The showcase of local art can also become a mode to educate the people about the rich history culture of their community. This was also mentioned in Jasmine’s comment that displaying art in public is an opportunity for the people to understand more about the land which they stand on.
I also do not see any issue is the taxpayer’s money is used to pay for the art exhibit since art is a way to educate the people. I totally agree in her statement that art can enrich a community and can bring it to life. Choosing the pieces of paintings to be displayed must be monitored by the office of the Mayor to ensure that the work of art is not offensive to any race, gender, age or religion. Respecting these sensitive issues will guarantee that art works will be much appreciated by the people.
