Good Essay On Boko Haram
The article, “Boko Haram HQ Gwoza in Nigeria ‘Retaken’” posted on BBC on 27 March, 2015 describes the threats of the militia to extent of postponing the general elections for up to six weeks. After the recapture, reports show that the insurgents are now holding no territory as this was the only remaining area they occupied. They have dispersed towards the border. Chad having been helping Nigeria to fight the insurgents expressed displeasure with the way Nigeria’s military has been handling the whole situation. It is worth noting that Boko Haram that means “Western education is forbidden,” is a group of Nigerians whose priamry agenda is to establish an Islamic State in the Northern regions of Nigeria. The group has been attacking and killing thousands of people since 2009 and displaced about three million others. Although Boko Haram began in 2002, its military strikes began in 2009. The Nigeria Military has failed due to poor pay, low morale, and hostile working conditions. However, the Military has noted that recapturing Gwoza is a major milestone in the fight against the insurgents.
The concept in this article points out the chronology of events that shows how ethnic groups relate to each other leading to crashes among themselves. The desire to have political power over regions is usually fueled by the failure of the existing government(s) to provide essential services to the satisfaction of all. The use of brutal forces to preach and force people to believe their ideas has led to the killing of many people and displacement of millions of others. Since the government must protect its people from forced doctrines, the recapture of Gwoza, the former headquarters of Boko Haram and where some think the group is hiding two hundred girls it had captured restores hope of winning the battle.
