Good Essay On Lord Of The Flies: A Study Of Similarities And Dissimilarities Between The Character Of Ralph And Jack

This novel by William Golding is about a group of British boys who are marooned on an island. It shows their struggles and efforts to survive in those hostile situations despite being of a very young age. Of the various characters in the novel, the most conflicting ones were that of Ralph and Jack.
The major similarities between the characters of the two boys are that they were both capable leaders and were strong in terms of asserting their views. They were also valiant and had a strong build which made them physically sound.
However, a few dissimilarities between the natures of the two could also be found. Firstly, Ralph was an elegant person who believed in acting in a cultured way while Jack was more belligerent and believed in savage ways of survival. Jack was manipulative and could change the minds of his companions easily but Ralph was more undeviating and believed that proper order and organization will help them survive the monstrous experiences at the island. Ralph always stood against violence while Jack’s savage nature made him violent and also forced him to resort to violent means of survival. While Ralph appealed to humanity, Jack resolved to use hostile measures to make his dominance known.
Despite these differences and odds some of those who were marooned on the island make it out of there alive while leaving their fallen comrades behind with doleful spirits.
