Taxonomy is the science of defining groups of biological organisms based on their similar characteristics. Taxonomy has led to the science of evolution since through taxonomy, it was observed that certain organisms could come from a similar ancestor and through time, they have differentiated themselves depending on their environments. This shows that from a single species, there derived many different species. Evolution occurs due to an organism adapting to its new environment and produces a new type of specie.
Galileo strongly believed in the heliocentric theory by Copernicus. In this theory, the earth and all the other planets revolve around the sun. With this belief, he derived his own theory on the tides. In this theory, the changes in sea level can be the effect of the irregularity in the Earths’ motion (Gigli).
Newton’s theory on gravity was formulated when he observed an apple falling (Jones). He wondered what force had caused the apple to fall downward and not go upward towards the moon. He then concluded that both the moon and the apple are affected by the same force and called this gravity
Both taxonomy and Galileo’s theory was a broader field of study and from it derived a more specific study like the theory of evolution and Newton’s theory. Without the prior knowledge, both Newton’s theory and the theory of evolution would not be formulated. These discoveries are important in the field of science. They are also similar in the sense that they both lead to a better understanding of the world around us. This leads us to conclude that by studying currently understood theory, we could still discover many of the current mysteries of the world.
