The modern world is faced with a myriad of challenges that require proper human attention in order to provide viable solutions. A major issue that cuts across all religion, race and creed is disease. It requires professional attention in order to fight and contain epidemics caused by disease to the society. Due to this challenges backed by a strong interest in becoming a professional nurse, I intend to pursue a professional nursing course at the University to realize my dreams. This paper, as a result, seeks to give insight of the reasons that drive my desire to join the college to study nursing and the benefits that accrue out of that.
I want to pursue nursing education and later as a profession. It calls for discipline in terms of dedication, dedication and hard work. In order to be successful and equally competent in the profession, a college degree is pertinent as it provides a stable platform in theory and to some extent real life practical experiences. A college degree provides an in-depth analysis and exposure to the various health matters and how they are handled. As such, it would prepare me both physically and emotionally to transition into the profession. Besides, there is the lot to share with fellow nursing students and also timely guidance from tutors.
Undertaking a college degree in nursing ensures that the candidate is well-rounded not only in the technical essence but also in the personal development aspect. I will be able to acquire better communication skills, nurture leadership skills, improve on self-esteem, obtaining valuable apprenticeship skills as well as networking with alumni, the administration and other external university fraternity. Additionally, the academic curriculum allows for critical thinking session’s that objectively contribute to the systematic thought process that is essential to the profession. It is paramount to note that a slight mistake can lead to more injury on a patient and even loss of life. For this reason, undergoing the university training to become a nurse, better equips students to be competent and reliable in the decisions they make either independently or collectively.
Higher education qualifications improve not only the living standards of an individual but also the quality of life. Studies conducted indicate that graduates with a college degree have longer life spans, better health and dietary practices, better economic stability and better access to health care as compared to high school graduates. For this reason, it is my priority to acquire prerequisite skills that will help me make a meaningful decision both in my career and life. I want to expand my skills and knowledge, express clearly my thoughts in speech and writing, grasp abstract theories and concepts and finally contribute to the knowledge base known to the world. According to United States census bureau, a college graduate earns an average of $50,000 annually as compared to an average of $30,000 annually for high school graduates. I want to be better remunerated and thus my keen interest in pursuing a professional nursing course at the University.
There are other benefits accrued from a college degree which include a strategic position for future changes in nursing regulations, a wider scope of opportunities in nursing, obtaining more knowledge in the field and an ever increasing demand for nurses in the market. Future changes in policies and regulations may dictate that all nurses have a college degree. Acquiring one provides a competitive edge in the market and cushions a career against such shocks. Higher nursing qualifications provide more opportunities such as venturing into research. It provides more room for specialty career prospects such as pediatrics or oncology. The diversity and limitless scope of the profession creates excitement and determination to proceed with university education in nursing.
Another fundamental inspiration for the desire to join the college is because it equips students with better time management skills. It is paramount to inculcate a good time keeping skills since the time has to be created for reading, completing assignments, attend lectures, relax and enjoying co-curricular activities. All these need proper time management or consequently lead to failure. The time management skill is not only useful during school period but also depicts how well a student will manage time and prioritize activities. With proper timekeeping, the efficiency levels are increased, and more objectives are met within a shorter period.
I believe I have the enthusiasm, competencies and focus to start and successfully finish a nursing course in the university. The school provides the best environment for obtaining the necessary prerequisite skills and knowledge for backing up nursing practice in the future. The growth and development opportunities, aided by a desire to help the sick and high demand, provide an arena for exponential advancement career wise. The ambient university environments supported with necessary resources offer a platform for excellence in the professional study. Also, the networks formed by the alumni of the institution, the university partners and fellow students are a source of valuable information. The information is critical in ensuring the crucial aspects are gained as a result of college education.
