The agents of erosion are water, gravity, ice and wind. Mostly, water and ice are considered as the main agents of erosion because of the mass effect they have on the earth. Wind erosion is not as powerful as water or ice erosion but it in time it can also as effective as water and ice. Wind erosion carries dusts, sand and volcanic ash from one place to the other. Wind erosion often happens on deserts and also in rocky areas. Wind erosion has the tendency of slowly softening rocks and cliffs until they are smooth.
As an agent of erosion, wind also has significant effects in helping shape the landscape. Wind erosion are responsible for some of the well-designed rocks and cliffs in many national parks. Locations such as the Grand Canyon, desert and other cliff or rocky national parks are the effects of wind erosion. Sometimes it looks like the rocks and cliffs were purposely shaped, but the force of the wind mainly works on eroding the edges of the rocks or cliffs. This is what gives rocks and cliffs a designed look. Also, wind erosion is also an agent of pollination. As wind carries dust and other substances, it also carries seeds from one plant to another as well as nutrients from the soil. Wind erosion doesn’t cause as much damage to the soil as compared to water and ice. Wind erosion helps preserve nature by helping the government preserve areas as national parks. As much as erosion may damage the earth, it also has some significant effect to the earth and nature in general.
