Introduction:
Global warming has been a very disintegrating problem to our society. It is described by the gradual heating of the earth’s temperature that can cause the rapid formation of natural calamities. Many are making efforts on negating as well as preventing the worsening of the said process.
Each government worldwide has been encouraging its citizens to cooperate in handling the problem of global warming. For an example is that the 3Rs program; that is to reduce, reuse and recycle. It has been a global propaganda to participate on this matter to help saving the planet from complete annihilation.
But many individuals are also contesting their right to self morality on cases like global warming. They intend to put a thin line on what is their responsibility and what could they do in regards to the problem. One of them is Sinnot Armstrong. I believe he is making a point on his article about “It’s not my fault: Global Warming and Individual Moral Responsibilities”. While he does make a point the main purpose of this paper is to disapprove on all of his points. Regardless of any sources all of these are my opinions against the points of Mr. Sinnot Armstrong.
First and foremost his argument on “global warming does ‘‘seem’’ to make such wasteful driving morally wrong” is definitely a wrong assumption. He is very idealistic in giving his opinion rather than being realistic. He is saying that people are already guilty because they have known that riding a car that uses fuel can contribute to the worsening of global warming. He did not discuss on what is responsible driving. He just rushes on discussing things about global warming and making people believe that they are already guilty because of their moral obligation for global warming. On the other hand, he is using logic to his arguments giving presumptions such as he couldn’t contribute to the cure of global warming and it is not his duty to do so. Yes, he has been giving reasons why he should not help but the point of his reasons is utterly oblivious. For example why would he contribute to such things when he knows that factory, and other industries are the main sources of carbon emission and he does not give that much while using his car for leisure.
Moreover, the issue on responsible driving should be given. His arguments are mainly biased towards self gratification. It is true that driving leisurely could not give that ample amount of carbon emissions but to make it a point on infinitesimal contribution of carbon emission yes it is; given that he is not being responsible. Driving your car all week long and even without important matter to tend contributes to the effects of global warming; given that many of this people do the same thing. See, Mr. Armstrong is looking unto self-gratification rather seeing the whole problem as a planetary problem. One point that I could give to his essay is that; global warming is a worldwide problem and if you are not a citizen of the Planet Earth then you are free of moral obligations to do so. (Unless, he has the omnitrix with him and transform into an extraterrestrial alien)
