Often, it is through great struggle and perseverance through obstacles that we cultivate the greatest versions of ourselves. As a child, my father always reminded me that if you wanted to become prosperous in life, you must be willing to do things today others won’t do in order to have the things tomorrow others won’t have. It was he who taught me the great value of facing challenges head on, push forward, and overcome the obstacles that are set in front of you, no matter how difficult they may be. I took that advice very much to heart, and have applied that to my life and work ever since, which I believe makes me an ideal candidate for the Specialized Accelerated MBA Program at USC.
As the first person in my family to both attend and graduate from college, I have worked hard to overcome the obstacles that have been set in my path from an early age. My family was very poor growing up, leading me to work two jobs as soon as I was of working age to help provide for them. I had no financial support in college, but worked my way through college regardless of these setbacks. In spite of the lack of support available to me, I have made the most of my opportunities and successfully managed to juggle work and career obligations, while still making time for my family and friends. These qualities and more will leave me well-equipped for the logistical and mental challenges of USC’s MBA program.
In the course of my work, I have developed a number of skills that will be quite useful in my MBA experience. I have extremely strong quantitative skills, familiarity with computer applications and a great deal of experience in the collaborative and challenging nature of analytical study from my previous school experiences. I have also developed a great passion for using complex data to solve a plethora of marketing issues, finding the most elegant solution to pressing problems. These attributes will be further honed with the help of an MBA program such as USC’s; upon graduation, my long-term plan is to establish a lucrative and productive career in marketing research. With my MBA, I hope to gain the theoretical understanding, research skills and in-depth knowledge of practical approaches to managerial decision-making that will serve me in my future goals.
My decision to attend USC came from a combination of factors, chiefly revolving around the ideal nature of the school for my needs at this particular stage of my academic career. USC’s diversity, devotion to academic excellence and stellar research facilities and faculty are aspects of the school that really appeal to me, as I hope to gain a complete university experience while seeking my MBA. USC emphasizes a collaborative learning environment and a flexible curriculum, which will allow me to learn more holistically from my peers and instructors, as well as adjust my schedule and concentrations to suit my interests and goals.
Given the challenges I have faced in the past, and the possibilities of my future, I am convinced that an MBA program at an illustrious, high-quality institution such as USC is ideal for my needs. While there, I plan to be a resource for the school and my peer community, while also striving to make the most of my experiences and challenge myself to improve as a marketer, a student and a person.
