Please watch the video of your team presentation and then write out responses to these questions and submit them through Blackboard.
Which team are you a member of, what was your team topic, and what was your individual topic?
I was part of the Moaz Thomes and our group’s topic focused on Smoking.
What research did you do for the project? Did you cite each source during your speech when you referred to the content you obtained from the source?
I browsed through available online references such as ERAU. Since the topic was a global concern there are a lot of studies and literature available. I was able to cite the references during my speech.
How did you assess the effectiveness of your presentation? What did you find out from your assessment? How effective was your presentation? How could it have been more effective?
In my opinion, we did a good job with the presentation. We were able to deliver the root problem and at the same time give sets of solution to address the problem. I saw that the audience was able to relate to what we were discussing and I think that is a good measure to the effectiveness of our work. It could have been better, on the other hand, if we showed more effects of smoking so that our presentation can also raise awareness of others.
Were your introduction and conclusion effective? Please offer support for your answer. How can you make your introduction and conclusion more effective in your persuasive speech?
The introduction and conclusion of my presentation was alright. I was able to mention the needed and important information. The introduction shared what I was about to say while the conclusion summarized what I talked about.
What speech pattern did you use to organize the body of your speech (topical, chronological, special, etc)? Did you use effective transitions after your main points? Did the body of your speech seem “balanced” (the same amount of information and time was devoted to each main point)?
I was able to deliver as chronological speech because I followed an outline, all the arguments and points I mentioned are all related to one another. There was also a balance of ideas because I was able to use transition wherein the audience can follow what I was mentioning.
How dynamic do you think your delivery was during this speech? How could it have been improved?
Although my speech is short, I can say that I delivered it well. It could be better if I was given more time to deliver my speech so that I can mention more information.
Did you maintain eye contact with at 90% of the audience? Did you make eye contact with the entire audience?
Unfortunately, I was not able to maintain eye contact all throughout. But I know I can improve this by giving myself more confidence. I need to believe in what I am saying so that people can see that I am a credible presenter.
Did you do anything in your delivery that you think the audience might have found “distracting?”
I think since I was not able to maintain eye contact, the audience was distracted by it. I kept looking on my notes, the floor or anywhere else.
Please comment on your gestures.
I think my gestures helped me deliver my speech, it is important to add gestures to the speech. It helped calmed my nerves and at the same gave more impact to what I was saying.
Please comment on your rate of speech, your pitch, your volume, and your vocal variety.
I will give myself a 7 out of 10. Although it was not a perfect presentation, I can say that I delivered it well. My tone, pitch and variation were all present in my speech.
Did you come across the way you wanted to? What elements of your delivery do you want to work on in the future? How much time did you invest in practicing your speech?
Like what I mentioned, I need to learn how to maintain eye contact with my audience. I need to practice this, for example, I can deliver a speech in front of a mirror so that I know what I look like while talking with others. Now, I know what areas I need to improve and it is a good thing because I can start working on them.
Overall, what were your main strengths or your speech?
The main strength of my speech is its good content. Since I researched and used good reference, the content was good and cohesive.
Overall, what were your main weaknesses or your speech?
My speech was short and again, the lack of connection with the audience.
What three things (be specific) will you try to improve on in your persuasive speech?
I need to maintain eye contact, focus on the length and content of my speech and of course organize my references so that my speeches will be better in the future.
