The goal of any project manager heading a telemedicine program is to deliver all the promises of the program to the clients without any hassle and any problems. One of the biggest problems that the past and even the current generation of telemedicine program users face has something to do with the technical side. Therefore, the project management framework and techniques we identified mainly focus on that problem.
The first stage should always be about planning. Planning trumps the choice and sophistication of technology in terms of importance. In the planning stage, the project management team should be able to identify what telemedicine service will do and the type of patients that will be best served by it. The next part would be about the physician and allied medical health practitioner licensing issues. Telemedicine is a fairly new branch of medical practice and so medical practitioners such as physicians and nurses should agree to adjust to the use of the telemedicine services in diagnosing and treating patients; at some point, they should also be accredited and licensed.
The third part of the project management framework should be the scheduling. That is, the physicians and allied medical health practitioners would have to be scheduled for a meeting with their patients, of course via the telemedicine facilities established by the researchers. After the scheduling, the flow of the telemedicine project would most likely be passive because that is the time that the doctors and their assistants would be doing their jobs.
The last part of the project management would be the monitoring and evaluation. This is the most crucial part because this is where the researchers would be able to determine the problems encountered during the entire telemedicine process and the good points that they should maintain. The feedbacks would most likely have to come from the practitioners and the patients.
