RE: ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION AS A CONTRACT NEGOTIATOR I am writing to request for an administrative position as a contract negotiator. In this letter, I will explain in detail why I would be better suited as a contract negotiator as opposed to the manager in charge of union management. As we had briefly discussed in our meeting, you were of the opinion that I would be better suited as a union manage because of my people skills. However, I feel that we should not be hasty in making that assumption because I have much more to offer the company. For instance, a good contract negotiator has the skills and technical know-how of a human resource manager (Bucki, n.d.). I would like humbly to inform you that I accepted a new position as a human resource specialist at Team Schierl Companies. My new position gives me the opportunity to coordinate preparations for bargaining and also leads the negotiating team. In addition, I have worked with this company for a few years now, and I understand the position of the company concerning its policies and goals. New contract objectives are meant to support the objectives of the employer like including clauses in the contract for arbitration of unresolved grievances while avoiding contract disruptions (Cutcher-Gershenfeld, 2011). With this in mind, I plan to negotiate contracts that will be highly beneficial to the company and provide satisfaction to employee unions. It is my opinion that a manager of union operations position will not actively utilize my negotiation skills which I picked up in college. I have excellent communication skills; I am persuasive, assertive and better experienced as a contract negotiator than manager. Likewise, I studied business in college which will help in costing the union’s contract and calculate a sensible amount that the company might settle on. It is a well-known fact that in order to make rational choices and to counteroffer union demands with reasonable packages, the management must accurately cost contract demands (Cutcher-Gershenfeld, 2011). Therefore, if you choose to give me the position of contract negotiator, the company might save money since there is no need to high someone else to cost our contracts. I have also been studying bargaining books of previous company contracts with unions, and I have diligently learned how to identify different contract clauses especially those that may be affected by a demand. Likewise, I have done adequate research on the causes of union strikes, and I am capable of identifying and address potential strikes (Cormier, 2003).Although I possess critical thinking skills and strong analytical skills, I feel that I am not adequately equipped to undertake the job of manager in charge of union-management operations. I do not have prior experience, and I have also not dealt with unions before and I feel that I would not be in the best capacity to manage their operations. I am of the opinion that someone with advanced experience than me would be better equipped for that position. I have enclosed my documents for your perusal and determination.
