Mission
US Environmental Protection Agency is driven by the mission to protect environment and Human Health. The protection of Human Health covers all Americans and is undertaken through a collaborative approach with the federal government (www2.epa.gov).
Purpose
The main purpose of the US Environmental Protection Agency is to promote sustainability and health through protection of the Environment. This is achieved through formulation of laws and enforcing laws that have been passed by the US Congress (www2.epa.gov).
Background
The US Environmental Protection Agency has its headquarters located in Washington DC. It was proposed in 1970 by President Richard Nixon. Its implementation began on 2nd December the same year after the president signed an executive order. The Agency us headed by an administrator, although it is not considered a cabinet department (Brookes, 4).
Governance Structure
This Agency is headed by an Administrator; the current administrator is Gina McCarthy. There are also Headquarter Offices, each headed by headquarter administrators. This is followed by the Office of the Inspector General that is responsible for performing auditing, investigations and evaluations as a means to promote efficiency, economy and prevent fraud related activities (www2.epa.gov). There are also regional offices that are in charge of executing programs and plans of the US Environmental Protection Agency. Consequently, EPA is composed of various regional laboratories that are in charge of knowledge development as well as assessment of scientific tools that would enhance environmental protection (www2.epa.gov).
Budget and Achievement
US Environmental Protection Agency operates under an annual budget. The current budget for fiscal year 2015 is $7.89 billion (www2.epa.gov). This is considered $309.9 million less than the previous budget; it is anticipated that the current budget will provide adequate support needed by the organization to achieve its objectives in relation to environmental law enforcement, health and environmental protection (www2.epa.gov). Through collaborative approaches the organization has achieved a high level of success in relation to protection of natural environmental resources i.e. endangered species as well as protection of environment through legal enforcement.
