Good Example Of Drugs Essay
The huge number of reasons for the emergence and development of drug addiction can be divided into three categories:
Social reasons. In a bad social environment, where drug abuse is widely spread a person is more prone to become a drug addict. Dysfunctional families, poverty, alcoholism, bad local communities can lead to drug addiction.
Nature of man, his mental and physical disorders, individual psychological qualities. A person might attempt to neutralize his negative experiences, indulge such traits as hedonism, try to fight low self-esteem or cope with unstable character through usage of drugs. It might also be a manifestation of self-destructive behavior or a protest against parents, society, authority, etc.
Religion and culture. In some countries using drugs is linked to cultural or religious traditions (such as chewing coca leaves in Bolivia, using drugs as a mean to communicate with God in different traditional cults ).
In fact, drug addiction causes serious brain damage. While drug consumption at the beginning is voluntary, after some period of time it alters gene expression and brain circuitry, which changes human behavior. As soon as addiction develops, it starts to influence individual`s ability to make decisions and leads to compulsive drug craving.
As a result of drug abuse a person becomes alienated from friends and relatives, antisocial, becomes involved into illegal activities, starts behaving violently. Besides, there is a wide range of effects on health, which can occur from one dosage or from prolonged addiction. The effects are: high risks of getting infected with AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, lung diseases, heart strokes, cardiovascular diseases etc. All these effects can lead to lethal outcome or suicidal tendencies, as well as antisocial behavior.
