Emotions have the capacity to illicit reaction. This is an absolute principle that does not necessarily need to be proven through experimentation. However, for the purpose of establishing accuracy in conclusion, authors Laura Campbell-Sillsa, David H. Barlow, Timothy A. Brown and Stefan G. Hofmann conducted a research which sought to appreciate emotions base on the concept of expression through the concepts of suppression and acceptance. The study operates using a simple premise, suppressing emotions can have a negative effect for patients diagnosed with anxiety and mood disorder . The effects noted by the authors were grounded on the health implications like arrhythmia and skin conduction among others (2006, pp.1257-1259). These manifestations, however, were documented among patients who were instructed to suppress their emotions. The study did not exactly present any significant findings that would be considered new or novel. However, important insights had been emphasized in the study. The authors had been able to significantly underscore the importance of acceptance especially in attributing human emotions. If one would contemplate on the procedure used in the experiment, the authors allowed the participants to process their emotions through visual processing. While it was not exactly the participants actual experiences that were utilized in the study to process emotions it paved the way for an accurate response of an individual as far as being an outside observer is concerned. The experiment allowed readers to understand the need to express emotions rather than keeping it bottle up because of health implications. Thus, it intensified the necessity for people regardless of the conditions that they have to have a good management of their emotions. Furthermore, it emphasized that such processing of emotions helped patients with anxiety and mood disorder in their treatment.
