Good Example Of Essay On Acid Rain
Acid rain is defined as a compilation of both wet and dry material that is deposited and consists of nitric and sulfur acids in above normal amounts. Acid rain is formed from volcanoes and plants that decay as well as production of things made by people like emissions (sulfur dioxide SO2) and fossil fuels which create nitrogen Oxides (NOx). Coal produces a lot of these man made materials in America and the generation of electricity that people use for power also creates abundance. When these chemicals combine with other things in the atmosphere the result is known as acid rain (government).
When acid rain occurs the ecological effects are very harmful especially to the waters on earth like rivers lakes and streams. This is because when the rain gets into these waters it changes there chemical composition making them acidic which begins the absorption of aluminum that is in soil and deposits into the waters. When the two are combined the water becomes poisonous too much of the aquatic life and the situation becomes dire. This is because although the toxic water is not initially harmful to all of the species in the water they are dependent on each other and when one species is threatened it causes a chain reaction which eventually affects all of the species living in and around the water. Acid rain affects trees and plants by causing aluminum deposits which disrupt the plants capability to absorb water. When trees and plant have to make it through other elements like cold weather insects and disease the effects from the acid rain lower their ability to live through these other attacks because they are not as healthy (Society).
