The workplace culture in Google allows employees to be innovative and creative, and offers amazing work life balance. The offices are well known for their innovative, fun, and wacky design, and like most of the company’s decisions, data shows that these spaces have a positive impact on productivity, collaboration and inspiration . The work environment and culture allows investigation and free flow of ideas to all googlers, and Google permits women to prosper through academic scholarships to be future leaders.
Many Google employees have left the organization to startup their career as entrepreneurs. According to Frederick Herzberg’s motivational theory job satisfiers deal with factors involved in doing the job, whereas job dis-satisfiers deal with the factors that define the job context .
In my opinion, I believe the biggest challenge in Google is to retain the employees who have an entrepreneur mindset; people who want to explore new dimensions. As a manager it is important to understand that each employee is motivated by various things in different ways. It is essential to know what really motivates every person. Motivation can be in terms of compensation, encouraging growth, listening, promotions, rewards for performance, knowing the skill set of each individual and assigning tasks accordingly.
Professionals have a long term vow in their field of expertise. The managers in Google must learn that professionals value support. Rather than prioritizing money and promotions, professionals tend to rank job challenge, tackle problems and find solutions . The professionals look for flexibility, which is always a challenge to the managers.
