Introduction

Making ethical decision at workplace is one of the fundamental things that most employees need to do. At the job place, there are several situations that employees may face that needs making ethical decisions. With an increase in number of female workers, there has been a problem with sexual harassments that most of the female workers face at their place of work (Halsey, 2015). They are always intimidated and seen as less superior at their work place regardless of their academic qualification. Most of them, for example, Jill, are faced with several challenges in their workplace. Their colleagues always harass them. Most of the female workers are always determined at their jobs. Jill, being a 45-year-old woman, was much determined in her job. She began her career at the company at the time she was out of high school. She had even earned two college degrees while she was still working at the same organization. This shows how women are always determined at their place of work.
Despite their hard work, they are often harassed at their work place. Some of them are always overburdened and given most of the roles by their bosses. This harassment does not deter them from performing at their jobs. Jill had been so loyal to the organization and to the fellow employees as well as her senior, Mr William Potter. She has even successful in hiring excellent people as the sales force. In this scenario, Jill has previously faced some challenges that were caused by Henry. Henry had even unsuccessfully propositioned her thus making her life very miserable. This thing had stressed her but she did not mention the incident to any other person.
Jill is a devoted woman who has been much committed to her work, as the vice president of the sales in a Candy Corporation that was headed by William Potter. William Potter had considered placing his oldest son, Henry, as a CEO in the company (Shanks, 2015). William had then requested Jill to review Henry and recommend him. It is the same Henry that had made Jill’s life miserable and thus, Jill is in a dilemma on how she will review and recommend someone who has made her life miserable.
Ethical theories can be used in decision-making. When these theories are applied, Jill will have made a good decision in that ethical dilemma that she is facing. The first theory is the consequentialist theory. This theory is based on good moral response that is related to the outcome and the consequence of the decision that we make. Based on this theory, any decision that one makes has its outcomes. For this reason, one is supposed to make a wise decision so that he or she does not regret the consequences that might come after the decisions made.
Another ethical theory of decision-making is deontology. This theory is based on the duties and rights as well as respect to individuals. This theory holds that one needs to express respect to anyone. Respect for one another is a fundamental thing that each and every person needs to express before making any decision. Jill needed to express some aspects of respect before making any decision while she is in such a dilemma. In this scenario, Jill was to show respect to both Henry and Potter before making any decision in this matter.
Furthermore, virtue ethics is another theory that one can use while making a decision when in such a dilemma (Wilson, 2015). This theory emphasizes the moral character of an individual. The moral character of and individual includes some of the important virtues that an individual needs to express. Some of these virtues include truth-telling, honesty as well as kindness. When all this virtues are observed, a wise decision can be made.
With all this three theories followed, Jill would have reviewed Henry with honesty, with respect and, above all, she should keep in mind the consequences of her decision. For this reason, Jill should evaluate Henry in an honest way and recommend him to Potter in an honest way. In regard to the first theory, the consequentialist theory, Jill should think of the consequences that would occur as a result of giving a false recommendation over Henry. The consequences that will follow might be unbearable. Jill should also consider some of the morals and virtues that are needed to be expressed. The most important of all virtues is honesty. She was to recommend Henry with honest and respect.

Conclusion

Decision-making is an important aspect that needs to be observed at all cost. When one is in a dilemma, he or she should think more critically and be able to use some of the ethical theories while making decisions. Jill should, therefore, apply these theories so that she can recommend Henry in an appropriate way without biased or basing on her previous treatment that she encountered from Henry, who made her life miserable.
