Tactics and strategies to use:
Provision of security and safety to visitors
The security agencies in the city should make sure that there is a high level of safety in the city. Security is a factor that close to 100 percent of visitors consider before choosing a destination (Das, 2011). Visitors should be secure as they visit any part of the town to eat, drink and engage in their preferred forms of enjoyment. Entertainment spots and the streets should be manned and patrolled by teams of highly trained security personnel. The security teams should identify areas that are crime hot-spots and address the causes adequately to enable them come up with solutions.
Professionalism in the hospitality industry
The responsible authority in the town should make sure that the hospitality industry is operated and supervised by professionals who are committed to delivering quality services to visitors. Professionalism is a key pivot to the hospitality industry (Bennett & Strydon, 2001). The players in the industry should only be allowed to carry on with their businesses after meeting a set of requirements. The requirements that ensure professionalism should be established by the responsible authority.
Training locals on the need to be friendly to visitors
The locals should be trained and made to understand that they should be polite and friendly to visitors. They should always assist the visitors on any issue that may arise whenever it is possible. The town will be sold as a beautiful place to visit, and therefore they will eat and drink in Victoria BC.
Offering goods and services at reasonable prices
Foods, drinks and accommodation services to the visitors should be availed at reasonable prices. People from across social divides will be able to visit and enjoy the town’s food and drinks. Exaggerated prices will have the effect of keeping away visitors who don’t have a strong financial muscle. It will encourage them to visit other places that offer their goods and services at reasonable prices. Fair prices are a key to attracting and retaining clients not only in the hospitality industry but also in all forms of businesses (Das, 2011).
Advertising
The city of Victoria should be advertised in the targeted places (British Colombia, Portland, Washington DC and Seattle) as a great tourist destination with great delicacies and drinks for visitors. Attractive billboards should be set up in the towns’ most crowded places like bus stops and railway stations. The bill boards at the bus stops should contain photos of the most attractive parts of the town and the foods and drinks that Victoria has to offer. In the world of advertising, billboards go a long way in creating a clear visual image of the product being advertised (Bennett & Strydom, 2001). At the bus stops, the advertising team will place some of its members at strategic points (Where most people pass for example at entrances, exits and receipt offices). The members at these points will hand over banners, booklets or flyers to passers-by. The banners, booklets and the flyers will contain relevant information that is aimed at convincing a person to visit Victoria. These targeted potential visitors will be made aware of Victoria as a great destination.
Advertising should also be done on social media platforms like Face book, Twitter and Google Plus among others. Marketing in various social media platforms is a popular and effective form of marketing today (Das, 2011). People of all ages whether poor or rich are active users of a social media platform. All the users in the targeted states are potential visitors to the city, and they should be targeted by the marketing campaigns. The advertising campaigns should be highly interactive and contain accurate pieces of information about the city. There is no visitor who would want to find that the city is different from what was relayed to him before the visit. Social media users should feel welcome to Victoria BC. Any questions they have should be answered promptly with accuracy. Accounts will be created on the platforms and social media advertising experts hired to manage them. The experts will post information about Victoria in the accounts on a regular basis and interact with people who react to the postings. They will for example answer questions and clarify issues that are not clear to users.
