As my mother worked as a music teacher in a local art studio, music has always been a part of my life from the very young age. When I was quite little, mum used to take me to her work, where I was seating and watching her teaching children playing piano. I enjoyed that time, just listening to the pleasant and calming sounds of that big musical instrument, as it seemed to me, when I was a 5-year-old. When you are a kid, you want to explore the new unknown things. Those hours at my mum’s work inspired me to learn the ropes of piano playing, and eventually, a big black one appeared in our living room. During my childhood, our family had to move from town to town couple of times. And every time I waited to put the piano in our new home and full the room with the fascinating sounds of my piano. As I had a desire to play as good as my mother did, all learning was easy to me and after some months I improved my playing. That was the first music experience in my life.
My fascination of music was not ended. By virtue of my mum’s job, our house was crammed full with musicians. Mum’s friends-musicians stayed at our place for tea and I enjoyed listening to their passionate stories about how they adore music. All those evening conversations inspired me to learn something more. And for the next birthday my uncle presented me a guitar. This perfectly done acoustic instrument helped me to discover the new unexplored sides of my soul. As I adore music, playing guitar was easy for me, and after some time and a few sleepless nights I started playing better and better. Both piano and guitar helped me in my dark times. If I had some troubles and my heart was crying, I took the instrument and simply started to play. All pain and bad mood left my soul through the music.
I guess that my mum’s taste in music has greatly influenced me. In our home you could often heard the sound of Frank Sinatra’s songs played on the record player my mum used to listen. His charming music made my heart sing together with him. I have not stopped listen to his greatest hits even now, when I am not a child anymore. When I am in a bad mood, I just take my Walkman and Sinatra’s music help me to escape from this sometimes gross reality.
At those teen times, when guitar appeared in our house, my musical tastes become more alternative. Like an every teenager I used to overcome my problems seating in my room and listening to such legends as Queen, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones. These famous bands made me invulnerable and strong. My present musical tastes become more mixed with past few years. I spend a lot of free time listening to the jazz music. The greatest songs of such legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker make my life happier and help to get relaxed after a tough day.
I simply cannot imagine my life without music. I adore listening to the music, look over old records and CD’s, finding something new, new styles and amazing songs. I also spend time playing the piano or pluck the strings of my guitar, creating new melodies and rhythms.
Music has been a part of my life since childhood that is why it influenced me as a cultural identity. Music helped me to try on various moods and styles. It helps me to feel myself as a jazz player or shift me to a rock stage and be as a rock musician. It is unbelievable how some melodies can affect our mood, calm us or vice versa touch some alternative part of our souls. Music accompanies me in my everyday life wherever I go, making it more wonderful and bright.
