Organizations also use negotiations in attaining new opportunities and increasing flexibility. Therefore, negotiation is used as a tool for tackling ineffective practices, creating changes, and outdated assumptions.
It is always important for individuals working in the human resource department to be aware of the issues taking place within the surrounding. In this case, the issue is of concern is related to negotiation strategies applied between the management and the subordinate in a bank. The issue that has been realized is luck of negotiation skills between the companies management and the other staff members (Kolb and Jessica 45). A Human Resource Development program would always be useful for a person that has just gotten into a new profession or job opportunity. Through the HRD program, one would be guided on what they should do and how they should do it. AHRD program would be easily formulated, based on what one has learnt during their time in college, and based on the tutorials the received while at college (Coghlan and Shani 52) . The banking profession remains to be one of the most challenging, yet is one that offers insight to me as a person. Whereas HRD has been taken up by many other businesses, the banking sector remains to be one that has lagged behind. Effectively, this would be the HRD programs for operations as Bank Manager.
The job description of a bank manager may have very many roles and responsibilities. However, these responsibilities and roles can be summed up into four major categories. The works that are delegated to bank managers include promotion and marketing of products that the bank offers. He is also mandated to meet with the customers whereas they would look at the complaints and problems that are facing the organization (Kolb and Jessica 52). The managers also ensure that there is a high level of customer service in the organization. This would mean that they offer over the counter services and other means of consultancies. The obligations of the managers include reporting to the head office then transferring the information to the other staff members. They are expected to represent the bank in the wider community through building relevant contacts for the bank. This shows that the bank manger is supposed to be in a position of having negotiation skills that are adequate and efficient. The manager is also expected to have two skills such as leadership and organizational skills.
It is essential; for organizations to train their workers on good negotiation skills. Training to be offered would engage the entire staff of the bank in different departments whereby the negotiation skills will be initiated in various fields in the bank (Coghlan and Shani 67) . The negotiation skills will ensure that that there are effective passing of information through knowledge in the following fields. The negotiation skills that are likely to be implemented in the training include, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, writing skills and personal skills.
Interpersonal skills entail that the management and the individuals working in the bank will be in a better position of engaging in face-to-face conversation with each other together with the clients. They will understand the essence of using the correct in any conversation. They will also be equipped with skills in non-verbal negotiation, which will help them in presenting themselves to the clients. it is also mandatory for them to have good listening skills as this will help them in attaining good negotiation skills. The other negotiation skill involves presentation where they will be equipped with skills of presenting information to others as well as presenting themselves. This makes it possible for people to believe the information one is presenting to them. The writing skills, which will be acquired, will ensure that the individuals will be able to express themselves in writing. This will make it possible for them to communicate using letters and emails to the relevant recipients. Finally, the individuals will be equipped with the relevant personal skills during the training (Kolb and Jessica 61). These skills will be essential for individuals to improve their self-esteem, personal appearance, building confidence and personal presentation. The training will is also essential in building organizational and leadership skills. This is important for the managers in different fields such as managing time, delegation of duties and project management.
The first department involves knowledge in information on the operations of the bank. The bank manager ought to have immense knowledge of the way a bank operates. As a bank manager, one is supposed to play a front role in terms of operations. The bank would look at the bank manager as the overall leader and the person with whom the buck stops in as far as major decisions are concerned (Coghlan and Shani 78). This implies that the manager must have immense knowledge on the operations of the bank in terms of its policies and rules. This may include working schedule, operational tactics and other aspects that may be specific to the bank.
This will be followed by facilitation in planning of the activities in the bank. Planning remains to be one of the most important organizational functions of the modern day organization. The bank manager is definitely a person that is key in as far as planning of the bank’s operations is concerned. Effectively, much priority would be given to the plans of the branch of the bank I would be working for and those of the overall baking organization(Kolb and Jessica 63). Planning entails establishing the needs of the organization and developing the long term and short-term goals of the bank by linking them with a vision and mission of the banking institution. This will require that I consistently sit in meetings to ponder over the organization, its goals and missions and the strategies available to achieve better results. Planning would require that everyone within the bank is brought overboard to help develop strategies that are widely acceptable and those that can steer the bank to higher heights.
The negotiation skills will also ensure that proper coordination is attained in the activities of the bank. One of the major tasks govern to the bank manager is that of facilitating the coordination of activities of the bank. Coordination would be important in that it would help in achieving the vision and mission of the bank without having to encounter hitches that are avoidable. Through proper coordination, the output would be higher as each and every effort would be channelled in the right direction and put in use in the proper manner. Coordination would require that each and every employee of the bank or branch of the bank is asked to give their contribution in which way best they can work(Coghlan and Shani 90). However, as the overall leader of the bank, the manager reserves the right to how each of the employees of the bank would work. The need for consultation on the views of employees of the bank is only necessitated by the desire to achieve high levels of efficiency. This would call for a proper working schedule to facilitate the division of responsibilities to different persons working within the bank.
Good negotiation skills ensures that there is proper delegation of duties in the bank. One of the most important elements that define the work of a bank manager is that of delegation. The job description and the responsibilities of a bank manager requires that the manager reports to office on a daily basis and that he makes regular returns to regional coordinator or the head office (Coghlan and Shani 102). This has to do with cash slow and the transactions made after a day. The manager is also charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the all the financial transactions done by all the tellers and the feeding of teller machines attached to the branch are in line with the balance sheet. As a person who may be called upon to attend to any other emergencies of matters that may have them out of office, the delegation would be inevitable. The delegation would also help in nurturing talents and sharpening the skills of juniors within the bank.
One of the most important exercises that would be bent in preparation for the banking manager job is that of orientation. This can be initiated through proper negotiation skills. Working as a bank manager, one may have a great extent of freedom, one that allows one to domineer others and impose their own will on the juniors in as long as they stick to the policies and rules of the bank. In getting into a new position as the bank manager, the orientation would be a very important activity (Kolb and Jessica 70). This would include liaising with my predecessor before they get out of the office to understand how the office is run and learn one or two things about the bank and its policies and operations. The outgoing bank manager would well provide basic information on the bank’s assets and all assets under the bank.

Conclusion
