Description of the Organization

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is a non-profit film organization that supports upcoming filmmakers and corporations to fund their work. Precisely, the organization looks for funds to support filmmakers who document crucial issues that affect the society. As well, we focus on building information and communication expertise among the members. The initial focus of the center was to support the production of the movies. Indeed, we could chip in some funds for the filmmakers who were struggling in shooting their films. Our particular areas of interests in filmmaking were the films focusing on world history, political intrigues, and science fiction. However, the rise of social issues in the modern society propelled us to launch a program that would specifically cater for social matters documentaries. Indeed, the issues such as homicide, drug and substance abuse, domestic squabbles, child molestation and sexual abuse among others in the American society have been on the rise.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center was established in 1945 under the auspices of prominent journalist and reporters. The primary aim of the founders was to build a formidable support base through which critical events were covered without the limitation of finances. Key among the concerns was that many journalists and filmmakers with exceptional gifting were facing significant challenges in documenting their articles due to the shortage of finance. Up to date, the Film Society of Lincoln Center has been supporting such ventures. So far, we have supported 256,241 documentaries and short videos. Our main area of operation is in Pittsburgh, America.

The purpose of the grant is to start a program that will support the filmmakers who need funds for documenting crucial social issues in America.

Why the organization deserves support

Film Society of Lincoln Center commits itself to selfless, non-discriminatory, and equitable policies that ensure the unbiased provision of needed financial or information needs of our clients. Currently, we are working with more than 50,000 individuals from diverse social, political, religious, and cultural backgrounds. As well, we are in partnership with 56 filmmaking corporations across the globe. Our years of experience in the filmmaking industry have earned us a significant share of expertise and credibility.
We subscribe to core values that govern our day-to-day activities. One of our primary values is transparency in financial matters. Because of being a non-profit agency, the Film Society of Lincoln Center depends primarily on donations. To stick to our financial integrity policy, we avail our financial reports each year to our donors. Every donation is recorded, and appropriate acknowledgment note sent to the donor soonest possible.

Our long-term goals

The Film Society of Lincoln Center aims to,
Support audio-visual documentaries about social matters.
Train and equip upcoming filmmakers to have their productions well delivered without financial constraints.
Our short-term objectives
We intend to,
Provide funds to 500 film producers involved in the documenting the contemporary social issues in America within the first four months of the program.

Produce 350 social-related documentaries per year.

Establish forty new linkages with new partners within the filmmaking industry.
Our shorter-term benchmarks
Our criteria will involve four major areas. Firstly, it involves assessments on the quality of films and the number of films produced within spans of two months. Secondly, it includes facilitating opinion polls among the filmmakers concerning our services. Thirdly, it involves getting management feedback on the progress of the initiative. Fourthly, we will get community reflections on the program.

Strategies

Leadership and Partnership
The management of The Film Society of Lincoln Center is responsible for the monitoring this initiative. As well, we will work with the Kentucky Association for Responsible Journalism (KARJ), Society for Fairness and Equity (SFE), and the Missouri Family Matters Convention (MFMC). Indeed, these agencies will assist us to identify and plan on logistics of the program.
As well, we will solicit the inputs of primary consultants in the filmmaking industry. Indeed, these include Society for Cinema & Media Studies, the National Film Preservation Board, and the International Documentary Association (Yale University Library). ). As well, it will include the principal media houses such as CNN, BBC and Voice of America (VOA). We will also work with volunteers in the shooting and editing of the documentaries among other tasks as need be.

The Budget

This program will have four phases after which there will be a review. Each phase takes five years. The estimated cost per year is $ 5.2 million. Therefore, the cost for the five-year period will be $ 26 million, which totals to $130 million for the entire project. So far, we have received $ 4.8 million towards the venture. $543,236 is pending from other donors in the form of pledges. The money will go towards conducting studies and surveys for identifying the needy filmmakers. As well, this money will cater for the recurrent and administration expenses we will have in the program.
Notably, we are raising these funds through various other charities that offer similar programs. Indeed, this includes, the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA), British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC), and American Film Institute (Yale University Library).
Indeed, with your support, we will be able to help filmmakers in America produce quality documentaries of issues affecting our society. Through this program, Americans will become more aware on the social issues affecting them. In addition, the successful coverage of the critical social issues affecting America will serve as an excellent basis for responsible social action. Indeed, we hope that through these coverages, the legislators will enact relevant laws in response to the issues. Moreover, the filmmakers will have a smoother experience in doing their work without worrying about the financing.
