Good Example Of Essay On Review Of Report By Team A
The Problem
This research was based on a problem experienced at Michelin Lauren Proving Grounds were repetitive testing performed on passenger vehicle tires have created constant and uneven friction coefficient across the length and the width on every test performed. However, in order to return the friction into a normal condition, Michelin employs a technology that involves dragging in the immobile on a repeated sequence across the surface. This is a time consuming process, taking approximately 40 hours to burnish a small part.
The Focus of this Report
The basis of this report is developed on an identified problem experienced by Michelin as the performing the burnishing of their tires. The current methodologies applied by Michelin consumes a lot of time. As such, this report focuses on creating a design that can be used to perform the burnishing process at a faster rate.
The Solution
This report focused on a design of a burnishing wet auto-test strip facilitates an even burnishing of the surface in a manner that saves time. This was accompanied by a parallel goal that basically involved creating a design that could facilitate a variation of the normal force as well as rotational velocity used to perform the burnishing process.
Readability of the Report
This report is easy to read; there is proper spacing and forming with each sub-topic given a title. However, there is no clear title as readers have to guess where the title could be. Additionally, the authors seem to have confused the problem statement and the current situation in that the information that ought to have been in the current situation is provided under the problem statement and vice-versa.
Evaluating the Solution
On a grade ranging from A to D, I would give this solution grade B. This is because it is a solution that was developed after identifying a specific problem. The authors begin by providing a detailed description of the problem and how this could be solved through their design. I do not think it is the best solution considering the fact that its development was also characterized by certain challenges.
Review of Report by Team B
This report was published by Nathan Benge, Clint Johnson, Andrew Strom Matt Tieken in April 23rd, 2009. The advisory committee to this report was made of a team of three members; Dr. Jonh Wagner, Dr. Xiangchun Xuan and Beshoy Morkos. The title of this report is; Design of a Test Track Burnishing System.
Problem
The problem that creates the basis of this report is the development of a non-uniform grip on the track surfaces used for wet traction tests overtime.
Solution
The solution to this problem in accordance to the report is creation of an implement that can be easily attached to the tractor and powered by the energy from the tractor. That is, the energy from the power take off of the tractor.
The focus of the Report
The focus on this report is based on a development of a product that will be attached on the tractor, using power take off of the tractor to drive the wheels on the burnisher, hence reducing incidences of non-uniformity.
Readability of the Report
This report is easy to read; it is properly organized with each section given an appropriate heading. However, the main challenge is that it is single-spaced and may create challenge to readers with eyesight problems.
Evaluating the Solution
Review of Report Prepared by Team C
This report, titled, Michelin Burnisher was published on 23rd April, 2009 and was authored by Luke Beaver, Anthony Drew, Justin Leitzsey and Jared Stokes.
Problem
The report identifies that the current burnishing systems are characterized by longer time periods needed for burnishing periods as a result of increased coefficient friction during the test period of a tire.
Solution
The solution involves creating a design of an implement that can be attached on the tractor and uses the tractor power take off that can be used to facilitate the rotation of the tires, hence burnishing the surface as it moves.
Focus of the Report
The focus of this report is based on an identified challenge that would be eliminated by creating a design of an implement that would enhance the burnishing process.
Readability
The report is properly organized and formatted; it is also double-spaced, hence easier to read. The only challenge is that readers may experience a challenge as they attempt to identify the title of the report.
Evaluation of the Solution
I would award this solution a grade A; it is a clear solution, properly explained and the authors even identifies challenges that were faced as it was undergoing deign as well as how these challenges were overcome.
