I would enjoy working with egg yolk and oil. This is the material used for the Fresco Secco, but perhaps combine it with the Buon Fresco materials of limewater. This is material that I have never used before and would find it very exciting to learn what it can do. A proper wall painting, done in this style, would be a unique experience.

Will your subject matter be abstract or representational? Why?

The painting will have to be abstract as this is my strongest suit.
What scale will you choose to make your painting and why?
I would create a medium sized painting because my subject matter is abstract and people need to step back to see its content.

What will your palette (the colors that you will work with) look like?

The colors would be quite neutral because I want the faded Fresco appearance (that is, the unrestored Fresco looked). It would have to be brown, yellow, orange, and red.
Is there a painting in your textbook that is similar to the painting that you would like to create? Who is the artist? What year was the work created?

Is there a theme from Chapter One that you would like the content of your painting reflect?

I would like my painting to reflect light.

Most of Shazia Sikander's works are animated, but there are also paintings, drawings, and other small-scale works. Her works crosses boundaries, but there is a hint of her background that comes through in some of her work. She works with light, with paint, with ink, and other materials as well. Her works are often frames with elements that reflect her background as well. This can be seen in her work titled “Riding the Ridden,” (2000). This is not a very large painting, as with much of her works. One of the core attractions to the work, which is also the essence of the perspective in the painting, is the concentric circle. The lines are not the same thickness and add to the dynamic of the circle. It mesmerizes the eye, but it also draws the attention to the figures behind it, thus, creating a focal point. The images appear hazy, but are also very clear in what they represent. It is clear to see that they are women. The subtle coloration of the images creates the haziness. It is, therefore, just a step away from being abstract.

Frida Kahlo's work is not all for the fainthearted. Her work is deeply expressionistic as can be seen in the work titled “Henry Ford Hospital.” Most of her time was spent painting self-portraits, and capturing the pain, she felt around her life. There are other paintings where she expresses these feelings, especially around her miscarriage as this particular work shows. She finds herself on a bed that seems to be afloat, indicating perhaps her desire to not belong on the earth any longer, but it also creates an expansive space. The subject matter is, as in most of her works, of her, and the emotions she wished to portrait. The color that is so ominous (black) emphasizes the pain that she must have felt. The fetus is the focal point of the work. The colors used in the painting are very much in the style of Frida Kahlo. There is a definite atmospheric perspective that is created by the sky. This is one of the paintings, which she created with oil on tin.
