The question of how have fast food entrepreneurs turned into the global leader and captured such a big sector of consumers has been the topic of interest since the international success of the McDonald’s Corporation satisfying needs now in 119 countries and KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) which now offers its services in 118 countries around the world. The issue was considered by the authors from various points of view, for example, Christopher Holloway (1992) in his book “Travel and Tourism” regarded the fast food enterprises success involving determination of their strategies; the book “The History of the World's Greatest- Entrepreneurs: Biographies of Success” by Ronald Shillingford (2010) describes mostly starting points of the companies which led them to success; Heike Mieth (2007) in his book called “The History of McDonald’s” made a detailed analysis of the establishment and progress of the world brand. Studying the success of an enterprise includes many aspects connected to the other fields than history, these are such as Business, Marketing, Culture, Food and consumer science, Human resource management and other.
Christopher Holloway’s book “Travel and Tourism” thesis states for the aim to examine and express a combination of tactics and strategies which are applied in the course of introducing an enterprise, making an appropriate organization of a company and applying leadership skills with the purpose of gaining recognition and confidence of the consumers to transform into the world leading producer of goods or services. He believes that includes pricing, advertising ideas as well as symbolization appropriate only for a certain company. Using data, facts and figures are evidence to this. He proposes that each part of the material in the book be provided in theory together with data mentioning in each separate case and a number of decisions provided after the theoretical part which were made by the companies in their situations and their impact on companies’ perspectives. His views contribute much to my understanding of the research question, adding understanding of the appropriate marketing strategies which have to be applied when establishing a company. The knowledge allows me to make my personal analysis of the companies chosen.
The book “The History of the World's Greatest- Entrepreneurs: Biographies of Success” by Ronald Shillingford establishes for its thesis the method of the development of the entrepreneurs from the medieval times and later, not taking into account their different backgrounds and personalities. Ronald book gives me a preliminary image of the person who participated in establishment of the fast food industries Shillingford provides me with the information will assist me in expressing chronological part of my research question.
The book “The History of McDonald’s” by Heike Mieth contains the information of organization, history, advertising, products and branding of the world leading Corporation. The thesis of the book expresses the necessity of determining the company’s starting points, objecting and strategies with the purpose of being the example for the other entrepreneurs. There is a plenty of pictures in the book so as to provide visual evidence to the reader; the reader has the possibility to observe the typology of the restaurants and to follow the history of changes f the company’s inside and outside marketing and business strategies. The author applies deduction in organizing the events as well as provides the possibility of choosing a certain period of time from the company’s history. His approach helped me with the organization and management of my work.
The book “McDonald's 367 Success Secrets. 367 Most Asked Questions On McDonald's - What You Need To Know” by Christina M. Jackson (2014) seeks to provide the information about the company and determine the strategies of the company’s affiliates in different cities. The book is organized by the geographical positions of the fast food restaurants each having data on the products and its inner organization. He allows me to compose the image of the company’s systematic organization from which I can make an impression of the inner business strategies which are applied in the company’s restaurants. The book contains the historical section where I can find the information about the company’s establishment and development in the period of 1960s-1980s.
The book “Fast Food” by Tracy Brown Collins (2005) was written with the purpose of determining the main advantages and disadvantages of fast food in the United States. The book contributes much to my understanding of the research topic providing the information of the company’s products and the customers’ demand on them which will help me to evaluate while writing the research paper the reason of the company’s success and attention on part of the customers around the world. The approach in “Fast Food” also provides data on the sales of McDonald’s and KFC’s production which will be helpful for me in examining marketing side of the companies’ organization to measure their success.
In conclusion, I would like to mention that all the information makes a great input into my understanding of the topic as well as provide grounds for making a comprehensive analysis and deducing my own thoughts in the end.
