Prospect Height Care Center in Hackensack New Jersey is an assisted living facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. The institution offers an environment where meals, light housekeeping, and other activities are offered. The facility enjoys fully qualified nurses on a full-time basis. The nurses are Registered (RN nurses) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) who assist the patients with toileting, bathing, and dressing. The emotional, physical and social needs of the patients are met in various ways. For example, the facility provides stimulating programs such as aerobic exercises and outdoor programs. These programs are not only beneficial from a health standpoint but also provide an avenue for socializing amongst patients and tower activity staff. The health discussions regularly conducted at the facility also contribute towards the same end. The patients also have the freedom to watch movies and enjoy music. These programs and activities contribute positively to the emotional, physical and social wellbeing of the individual. The activities also cultivate a sense of community.
The patients’ spiritual needs are also met. The leadership at Prospect Height Care Center realizes that religion plays a very vital role in the lives of many people. Consequently, there are several well-established programs of worship. The activity staff is responsible for ensuring that people’s spiritual needs are met, by assigning them to their various houses of worship.
Family and friends are also supported in various ways by the facility. For example, they are invited to meet and discuss the progress of the patient such as details on their rehabilitation, as well as the discharge planning. This strategy helps to reassure the family members and friends that the patient is progressing well and being cared for in the best possible manner. The facility also allows children and pets to visit the patient. Family members may visit the patient together with their children. This move provides convenience to family members and friends.
Staff members at Prospect Height Care Center highly respect the individuality and uniqueness of the patient. They agree that no two patients can ever be the same in terms of their behavior or response to issues. The healthcare staff members respect the autonomy of the patients. When a patient makes a decision that affects them directly, the staff members respect the wishes of the patient. This culture is important because it gives the patients the independence to control their lives. Patients also feel a sense of independence that is not prevalent in other institutions. For example, although the facility has strong feelings against smoking, patients who prefer to smoke are escorted outside of the facility’s pavilions. Patients also have the independence to choose the meals that they take at the facility. Uniqueness is also promoted through the knowledge that patient cases are different, even though the features may appear similar (Prospectheightscare.com, 2014). The medical staff members apply their skill to dealing with individual cases. There are various financing options available at Prospect Height Care Center. For example, there is Medicare A, which covers home care, hospital care sub-acute inpatient care, skilled nursing, and hospice care. In addition, there is Medicare Hospital coverage, Home Health Care, and Medicare HMO (Prospectheightscare.com, 2014). My assessment of the facility is that it is doing well in terms of taking care of the patients. However, the program may be improved by improving the counseling services by not only making them frequent, but also comprehensive. Patients in institutions such as Prospect Height Care Center need a lot of moral support and advice.
