Good Example Of Literature Review On Harlem Renaissance - Jazz Decade - African-American Poet Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes’ searches and expressions of race, societal uprightness, and African-American civilization and art, his writing intensely seize the political, artistic and societal settings of Harlem during the periods of 1920s and 1930s. This paper is a discussion of Langston Hughes two poems, “To Midnight Nan at Leroy's" and “Let America be America Again.” 
Langston Hughes incorporated the jazz motif into the poem, “To Midnight Nan at Leroy's." The poet combines descriptions from a Harlem night club with lines from a blues song. The intensity of a driving beats with syncopation is apparently the feature of early jazz. Langston Hughes was noted to be the first one to have introduced rhythms of jazz into poetry. It is said to be an extension of the blues tradition. The effects of the combination give the impression like that of an inherent expression of the black people living in a marginalized society. The atmosphere seemed like that of a lively Harlem night club as a form of revolt in contrast to exhaustion in a white dominated society. The poet is merely suggesting the combination of the world of joy and laughter, and agony consumed in a smile. Most of these people work so hard to the point of exhaustion, but they would still find ways to somehow ease their sorrows in the form of music and other artistic forms. The persistent jiving, bopping and sounding is all modes or styles of Afro-American expressions of which are depicted in the lines of the poem. This notion is just to assert or even encourage a black person’s experience. Their lengthened experiences of pain and struggle for endurance reveal itself in the expression of the lines of the poem.
On the other hand, the poem, “Let America be America Again” is a motivated poem. The parenthetical lines represent a claim that America is a place of equality and liberty. However, the parenthetical lines give the impression to be a reply or criticism of the certainty of these accounts. The poem somehow reflects America has certainly not truthfully achieved these ethical potentials and proposes that America is still a dwelling packed of marginalization and boundaries. These statements are not effusively incorporated into all parts of the poem, which signifies that their implication is supposed unnecessary in the perspective of an extensive poem. The statements appeared to portray the inherent feelings and faint sentiments of the people living in a downgraded setting. The faintness reveals a sense of downfall and cruelty. The hardships and views of the downgraded people hold no significance to individuals of the higher part of the society, and they are repeatedly disregarded and unrecognized. The poem strongly expresses the sense of remorse on the idea that America does not really offer equal opportunity to all people equally. Equal opportunities and enhancements that America offers is not really accessible to all especially to the black people. Therefore, the poem claims that America’s ideals are integrally defective.
The speaker of the poem is simply describing some disregarded people of America who does not have access to that so-called American dream. It also strongly suggests that for America to be America again, it should uphold want are written in the constitution of which relates equal opportunities for all who lives in its vast land. The Nation’s genuine ethical aspirations are not really advocated by those in the position and that racial discrimination is still observed. This concept is still reflected in the society. The suffering of the Black American still continues to emanate in the images of the people crying for freedom from the oppressive society.
