The proposed bridge will be located on the east side of SR 507 north of University Boulevard since this section has overhead lighting. Furthermore, it will help in eliminating the problem with making eastbound right turns experienced by the drivers since the pedestrian crossing on the east side of SR 507 north of University Boulevard will be eliminated.
The stages of construction
In order to avoid heavy traffic snarl-ups the construction of the bridge will be completed in two independent stages of construction. During the first stage, the north side of the bridge will be constructed and completed. The second stage will start after the completion of the first and it will involve constructing the other half of the bridge on the south side. During both stages, pedestrian crossings and other locations such as bus stops will be moved in order to accommodate construction.
Lanes that will be closed
During each construction stage, two lanes on each side of the east side of SR 507 will be closed in order to ensure that the expected traffic can be handled. This implies that the entire road will be reduced from an 8 lane to a 4-lane road (with two lanes in both directions). Lanes on each side of the road will be closed independently during the two stages of construction. Pedestrian traffic will not be expected around the construction zone, therefore, all the pedestrian lanes will be closed.
Sequence and duration
The sequence and duration of the project is expected as follows:
Planning of the entire construction project: 1 month
Stage 1 construction commences - May 2015
Stage 1 construction completed - July 2015
Stage 2 construction commences - August 2015
Stage 2 construction completed - October 2015
Total project duration – 7 months
