Naturalism is a metaphysical theory that is held by many secular philosophers. Lewis however commented on this philosophy and confronted it. In his objection, Lewis argued that from three major perspectives. From the first perspective, he argues that naturalism entails determinism. He notes that if determinism is true, then all the events in the brains of determinists are because of antecedent events. He contends that there is no reason to believe that there is any connection between what comes after the cause-effect chain. In its own self, determinism is a self-defeating belief. In the second perspective, Lewis argues that if naturalism were true, then there would be no cause for belief. Lewis’s main objection to naturalism is that it undercuts itself, as the resulting inferences cannot be believed it or anything else.
Naturalism according to Lewis can only be true if no belief has been inferred. This can only be true if there is good evidence to support the rationality of naturalism. He concludes that there is no reason to believe or accept naturalism because human reason cannot come from a non-reason. Therefore, human reason must come from evidence that in itself is outside nature that is itself rational.
Individually I am a naturalist and me believe that the universe is analogous box and that everything that transpires in the universe is caused by other events in the universe. The existence of supernaturalism cannot be explained as I have never witnessed any miracle that can be used to explain its occurrence. Therefore, the belief that a supernatural being created the universe is false as there is no evidence to suggest the presence of supernatural beings. The definition of supernatural beings is false in itself, as nothing like that exists in the natural order.
