The mineral chosen for the study is Calcite whose chemical formula is CaCO3. It is very common and can be located in most parts of the world over in sedimentary, igneous and sometimes metamorphic rocks. Geologists consider calcite to be a mineral that makes up a large portion of the Earth's crust. It serves as one of the significant repositories of carbon on the planet it is the principal constituent of limestone and marble.
It’s properties make it a minerals that is widely used; Also used in various fields like; construction, as an abrasive, even as soil treatment, and construction aggregate and much more. It has a lot more uses than many other minerals. Calcite has numerous uses as a neutralizer of acids. Modern age builders use calcite in form of marble and limestone to produce cement. Specific uses include building highways, walls, bridges, and other structures. Marbles and limestones have been used on fields as soil treatment by spreading them as an acid-neutralizer for hundreds of years. The two are in addition heated to manufacture lime which has a faster reaction time in the soil. Sometimes also used as sorbents; which are substances with the capacity to capture another material. Limestone is frequently treated and then used as a sorbent material in the smoldering of fossil fuels.
Calcite's Hardness is that of three lying on the Mohs scale that makes it appropriate as a low resistance abrasive because its low resistance makes it an efficient clean-up agent that does not spoil the plane being cleaned.
Calcite is a Carbon dioxide store that is a vital gas in the Earth's environment. Carbon Dioxide serves as a conservatory gas in the atmosphere that helps to trap heat close to the facade of the planet. In the procedure of the formation of limestone, carbon dioxide is removed from the environment, and it keeps it away for extensive periods of time. This procedure has been going on for millions of years producing huge amounts of stored carbon dioxide. The rocks are used in neutralizing of acids, heated to formulate cement or metamorphosed sternly and some of the carbon dioxide is freed and returned to the environment. All the processes of limestone creation and obliteration have an influence on the Earth's climate.
