Good Example Of That Would Have Happened If Ophelia Didn’t Die And Ended Up Marrying Hamlet? Essay

In the Hamlet play, various issues could have arisen if Ophelia didn’t die and ended up marrying Hamlet. First, the marriage between Ophelia and Hamlet could have resolved Ophelia dilemma and confirmed that her heart has real feeling about Hamlet. However, the marriage would have fostered several conflicts.
The first conflict would be between Ophelia and her brother and father who never wished to see her and Hamlet together. One of the factors in the play that limits Ophelia to marry Hamlet is that she stands between the two contradictory poles. First, she lived Hamlet, and she was convinced Hamlet loved her too despite that he swears that he has never loved her. On the other hand, her father and brother were convinced that Hamlet considered her as a sexual object rather than a potential steadfast mother and a dutiful wife. Therefore, Ophelia marriage would be questionable because it could be against her father and brother’s will. Consequently, if the father stands on the same ground, this could be anticipated to bring down Ophelia’s marriage or push her into her on depression or madness.
The second conflict could have emerged between Hamlet and Ophelia. Although, Ophelia lived Hamlet, Hamlet never claimed to love her. Nonetheless, Gertrude’s actions have implanted a negative image of women in Hamlet’s mind. He wonders how her mother would love another man considering the way she was devoted to her husband who was a king. As a result, the act of his mother marrying his uncle proves to him that no woman is faithful. It is for this reason that he once rejected to confess that he loves Ophelia. These conflicting demands could be as a weakness to their marriage and in the end, Hamlet would have ended up divorcing Ophelia. Therefore, if Ophelia never died, she could be still in the same or worse situation because the conflicting demands could have made her the victim of the circumstance.
