The company is required to develop, implement and maintain procedures for identification of hazards, assessment of risks and selection of controls. When implementing and maintaining these procedures all the stakeholders in the company must be involved. In the process of assessing risks ensures that the highly risky areas are identified and careful selection of controls should be done.
For hazards to be identified proper implementation procedures for these hazards should be put in place. Accidents that have occurred previously should be examined in order to know the cause of such accidents and to evaluate how it happened and the chances of the accident occurring again. In the case of our company this step should be taken because the number of accidents has been on the rise for the past three years. Workers should report to their supervisor any safety concerns and hazards at their place of work. They should also act in a reasonable and responsible manner for them to be safe at their work place. It should also be mandatory for all the workers in the company to attend training sessions required. Employees should be trained how to use the machines and if possible they should be given user manuals to guide them on their daily duties. This will give them a point of reference in case they forget how to use the equipments. New workers are also supposed to work under the supervision of other experienced workers to reduce the chances of accidents occurring.
Suggestion boxes should be introduced in the company where workers can drop their opinions on what they want to be improved. Action should be taken to on health and safety matters as soon as they arise and the top management should be informed to rectify the situation.
The president of the company who is one of the senior most people in the company should ensure that hazards are identified in advance. He should spend substantitial amount of time to investigate the problems the workers face and look for their solutions. He should engage the workers in trying to find for solutions by talking freely to them and asking them to propose the changes that they want. The president should also identify the kind of training that new employee’s need before being recruited so as to reduce the number of accidents that are likely to occur.New employees are prone to accidents because they lack adequate training on how to use machines and equipments.
The production manager should ensure that the rules made are operational and everybody should abide by them. He should punish those who fail to obey those rules so as to ensure that there is discipline among the workers. For those who fail to obey those rules they may be suspended or expelled from the company. The health and safety manager will write the health and safeties rules and document the rules so that they may be used as a point of reference by all the workers.He should also put the rules at a strategic point in the company for the workers to read and understand.
The supervisor will implement the procedures by ensuring that they are put into use. Implementation means putting the procedures into actual use. He will monitor the workers to see how they do their duties on a daily basis and check if the follow the laid down rules and regulations of the company. The main reason of doing so is to ensure that procedures are not just put on paper but they are implemented. He will also support the manager on any other duty when need arises.
The health and safety committee members take part in the procedures by formulating the health and safety rules that are beneficial to the workers. They will ensure that the company meets the Ontario’s health and safety legislation requierements.This laws require the employees and the employer to work together to ensure that their work place is safe.HRM manager of the company who doubles as the health and safety coordinator thus making him to be stressed.
The worker as the employee of the company should report any incidents that can endanger the lives of other staff in the organization. He can complain to the top managers of the organization whenever he is not satisfied that enough is being done to improve the safety of the company members. This will assist the management to identify areas that need attention and improve them. By doing the worker might end up working in a secure environment where his safety is guaranteed.
I will identify the procedures by observing the environment in which the employees are working and looking at the dangers they are exposed to at their work places. Such dangers may include working without safety clothing and tools at work. Will also look at the ability of the workers to perform their duties. If they are not capable of doing their duties then I will identify the right procedures on how to improve this.
These procedures are going to be implemented by the supervisor who will ensure that they are actually operational. They can be documented in the company’s user manuals or even in the website of the company. Documentation should be in digital form to avoid losing data because of storing in manuals that are prone to wear and tear. Also data that is in digital form has backups that ensure that data is safe from unauthorized access. In this case pass words are used to protect data.
Risk for each job hazards will be controlled by eliminating it by removing hazards at your work place and also by implementing policies and procedures to be followed by all members of the organisation.
