Good Lab Conclusion Essay Example
Basing on the results and graphs from the experiment, it was concluded that force in the water jet is directly proportional to the momentum. Due to the graphs that were drawn showing the theoretical and experimental results presented two curves having a positive gradient. The higher the force, the greater the momentum and vice versa
When dealing with fluid mechanics, there is a temporary assumption that there are no applied forces. Such force is gravity and that there is no pressure such as a fluid of non-interacting dust particles. The viscous force is also assumed negligible. When the forces are applied to the momentum, there is a realization that the forces change the momentum especially basing on the second law of motion.
Ṁ is the mass flow rate
U1 is the velocity of the jet as it deflect from the surface of the target object
Uo is the velocity at the exit of the nozzle.
β is the angle the jet makes with the vertical axis as it deflects.
Furthermore, when less water is being deflected, there is a creation of a higher flux momentum and resultant forces. When a significant amount of water is being diverted in various directions, because of inclined and flat shapes, the action reduces the velocity of the water in the vertical direction, therefore, creating a lower flux momentum and resultant forces. The actual and theoretical values differ slightly due to factors such as the condition of the laboratory that is not perfect. Also, human error can contribute to the differences. The experiment has however demonstrated the force that is exerted object by a jet of water and has also found out how the force relates to momentum.
