What are the significant underpinnings of the historical leaders of health care policy and the relationship between evidence-based practice?

Evidence-based practice has created a significant impact on the nursing practice, science, and education. The historical leaders of health care to introduced policies aimed at transforming the health sector in order to ensure effective, safe, and efficient evidence-based practices. Nurses played a significant role in influencing changes in health care in the past two decades compared to the other decades. The history of health care helps in shaping the present health care by preventing a repeat of activities that happened in the past. Historical leaders had passion for change but faced many challenges from dominating politicians and officers with self-interests. Health care policies introduced by historic leaders have a lot of significances today in shaping the perception of nurse practitioners in response to changes. Historical leaders introduced health policies that positively influence the work in the health sector to have more positive attitude towards work, and adopt evidence-based practice (Aarons, 2006).
On the other hand, historical leaders of health care policy catalyzed the adoption of evidence-based practice by ensuring federal, state, and local regulatory implement the program by through funding and other resources needed to improve the quality of patient care. Nurses always have positive attitudes towards implementing evidence-based practice, but face barriers related to poor pay and lack of adequate knowledge. The work of historical leaders of health policy has more significance in the practice of nursing by pressuring the government to improve the living standards of nurses and equip medical institutions with necessary facilities in order to produce proficient graduates (Stevens, 2013).2.
2. Using the table in Mason, Levitt, & Chafee, 2012 pg 26, describe where you fall in the spectrum of political competencies and elaborate on what you hope to gain this semester
Nurses, working as individually, or as a group influences policy and political decisions focusing on the health care sector. In the spectrum of competencies, a range of activities that nurses chose to influence health care are portrayed. The learning the ropes spectrum represents my association with health and health care. The ropes spectrum helps in influencing health care policies aimed at improving the health care industry through promoting evidence-based practices across the country. Additionally, implementing the above spectrum broadens social agendas that influence human health. The spectrum teaches an individual nurse on how to become an effective activist and transformational leader. A person who follows the ropes spectrum always makes a difference in the workplace and takes every opportunity to make a positive impact in health care delivery (Mason, & Leavitt, Chafee, 2012).
At the end of the semester, I hope to use the experience and knowledge gained from learning to introduce health policies that will improve patient outcome. The ropes spectrum will help me influence the decisions made by the government through introducing political activities. Additionally, at the end of the semester I would like to acquire more skills in both nursing and politics in order to argue for policies that have positive impact on lives of individuals. Learning about the relationship between leadership, politics, and nursing also makes me hope to influence the work of politicians into ensuring they fulfill their promises. Politicians, leaders, the community, and health care practitioners should come together in an effort to promote good patient outcome.

The United States health care sector undergoes many challenges starting from poor health care management, insufficient health care workers, poorly paid health employees and non-compliance of health care policies. Change is needed in order to improve the U.S. health care sector, and it requires an individual with a passion for change. In this semester, I would like to advocate change in health care policies in order to make every individual responsible for ensuring patients receive quality care and in a secure manner. According to Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (2008), passion for change in health care sector calls upon an individual to always focus things that make patients and clients feel satisfied. Secondly, an individual should get involved in leadership in order to ensure other employees work effectively and fulfill health care goals. The end of the semester will see me become more committed to improving quality in order to make the future of the U.S. healthcare sector more promising. Additionally, my passion will encourage more people into the nursing professional minimizing nurse shortage experienced in the country.
