1.In the United States sex is considered something that you should not do and is dangerous. When it comes to sex education the United States does not teach about safe sex or condoms but rather they preach abstinence. Sex is more uncomfortable and is taught in basic in schools with no regard to homosexuality or how to prevent pregnancy and disease. The United States acts like if it is not talked about it will not happen. However The United States has a higher teen pregnancy and birth rate than Europeans. In Europe this conversation is normal and acceptable and is taught with the idea of using safe measures like condoms. There is ease when explaining sex and when telling your parents you are sexually active.
2.In Europe if a boy is carrying a condom in his wallet the girl sees this as responsible and more of an acceptance. If a girl here were to meet a boy without a condom in his wallet the girl would think he was sleazy and would probably look the other way and discontinue the relationship. Condoms are given out for free in schools and it is well known that every responsible person has one. However these views are exactly different in the U.S. where if a boy were to keep a condom in his wallet it would make him look like he is dirty or a player and this would be an automatic sign of someone a girl would not date. With American rates of Gonorrhea being so much higher than Europe this implies this way of thinking is absolutely incredulous.
3.Virginity pledges are seen in churches in the United States and consist of a teen promising to stay a virgin until marriage. United States teens describe this as a huge pressure and some even consider it a challenge as they break the pledge the same night they made it. Since this is a pledge so many teens are not very serious about it is not really effective and teens feel it would be more helpful to be taught about sex being acceptable from the church rather than it being something to be ashamed of.
