Face the Nation

This is a television show that has been broadcasted on CBS television network for the last 60 years after its introduction by Frank Stanton. It focuses on political interviews every Sundays, touching on every significant local and international political environment that may affect the United States and other nations. Historically, Face the nation has been considered longest running political news program for the last 20 years. Bob Schieffer has been responsible for its moderation since the year 1991.

Current Events and History
Apart from terrorism, security issues and organized crimes, Face the Nation also provides information regarding current events such as health issues. In a recent show, Bob Schieffer discussed issues of the internet, vaccines and misinformation. In his perception, he believes that lack of proper vaccines can be associated with the outbreak of various diseases. He also notes that the internet has become a highly appreciated modern means of communication. However, the most challenging issues with the use of the internet are the manner through, which the certain quarters of the media have gone to an extent of misinforming the general public. Additionally, Face the Nation focus present interviews based on the history of political events. A recent interview that focused on political activism, hosted in this show involved Rep. John Lewis as the guest. He narrates how incidences of activism were suppressed in the early and the late 1960’s. In his interview, David cited an incident where demonstrators were brutally attacked by policemen in the Streets of Selma, Alabama. He compares this with the current political scenario indicating how democracy has allowed for freedom of speech and expression characterized by limited police interference. In his perception, this is a great milestone in the democracy of the United States.

Meet the Press

Meet the Press is also another longest running television show that has been held weekly on NBC television. It is purpose entails provision of analysis and insights regarding facets of politics and the economy of the United States. Additionally, it focuses on certain aspects of public affairs. This is achieved through hosting political leaders and major stakeholders in the economy of the United States engaging them in constructive and opinion-oriented interviews. Meet the Press has had approximately 12 moderators since its inception in 1945, with the current moderator being Chuck Todd.

Current Public Affairs

One of the current public affairs presented in the show is ascribed to issues of employment and the overall state of economy of the United States. On 14th February, 2015, Todd Chuck hosted Robert McDonald, the Secretary of Veteran Affairs. In this interview, McDonald provides reasons why under his management, hundreds of people have been fired from the Veteran Affairs Agency. Additionally, the show hosted John McCain on 15th February, 2015 engaging him in an interview directed towards determining his perception and ideas on funding of Department of Homeland Security. In this interview, McCain indicates that the Federal Government cannot afford to cut the funding of DHS. McCain notes the pertinence of DHS in ensuring that the security of the United States is not jeopardized. The interview also engaged McCain on his perception on the use of force by the Obama administration on ISIS, where McCain indicated that President Obama should not be deterred of prevented from launching an attack on the ISIS.

International Politics and Security

Meet the Press also presents current and anticipated future politics. In a recent show, Meet the Press engaged in informing the General public on the ideas of President Obama on why the United States, through an approval by the Congress, should allow his administration to apply force against the ISIS. The issue of using force against the ISIS has been a major debate in most media channels in the United States. Meet the Press has been among television programs hosting leaders from various political divides i.e. Democrats and Republicans regarding this issue. International relations is also another topic that has been the center of focus in this TV program. A recent show focused on a visit by the German Chancellor to the United States, Ms Merkel. Additionally, on 8th February 2015, Chuck Todd hosted the current US secretary of State, John Kerry. This interview focuses on Kerry’s ideas regarding the efforts that the United State government has implemented to enhance its relations with other nations. Kerry acknowledged the fact that the United States has formulated plans on how it will support Ukraine in their bid to gain democracy and sovereignty. Additionally, John Kerry provided information regarding the efforts of the United State and Iran to engage into talks that would enhance its relationship with other nations as well as its effort to cease nuclear production. Through its moderator Chuck Todd, Meet the Press has also played a significant role in the analysis of international policies applied by the United States, basically focusing on assessing and evaluating their efficacy on promoting international relations and security.
