Good Nigeria. Apga Report Example
Question 1
Countries around the globe have adopted presidential, parliamentary and hybrid system of government. Parliamentary system refers to where the prime minister is the ruler of the nation. Hybrid government refers to where the prime minister shares his powers with the president. Nigeria has a presidential system of government. This system of government involves division of power between the executive, legislative and judicial institutions. The employees in these institutions work for a specified duration and in different constituencies. Parliament is supreme and powers of the executive come from the legislature. Nigeria should adopt the parliamentary system of government as it encourages good leadership. The prime minister loses his job through a vote of no confidence.
Question 2
There are several types of electoral systems that are used by the public around the globe in electing their representatives. They include plurality, majority and proportional representation. Proportional representation voting system involves legislators being elected in the multimember districts (Amy 106). The number of seats that a party garners in an election corresponds to the level of its support among voters. Majority and Plurality voting system are better because it requires the winner to gain majority or plurality of the total vote (Amy 64).
Question 3
Nigeria should adopt a unitary system for subnational government because it fosters a sense of unity and cohesion. The revenue generated from the oil-producing states should be distributed in a form of the percentage of the total revenue (Ihonde). The state government should receive 55% while the oil producing states should receive 30%, and the remaining should be allocated to the government special funds.
Question 4 The constitution still needs to be amended for it to be equal to all citizens. The human rights under the Constitution should be implemented, and the president should be stripped some of his powers. The adoption of a unitary and parliamentary system of government would make Nigeria a perfect nation.
