Pandora is a web-based social network application that allows the exchange of multimedia files and interaction between members who have registered with Pandora. Pandora is only accessible the U.S.A, New Zealand and Australia. A social network site is an online platform that allows social interaction between people who share similar activities, interest, back ground or have certain social ties. Pandora has various features that would classify it as a social network site. First, it allows members to identify themselves by creating a public profile that represent their persona. The profile can be accessed by all members. Secondly, social network sites allow members to create a list of other users with whom they connect and interact frequently. Pandora allows members to create a list of friends with whom they have who have virtual discussion by making posts and comments. The Pandora platform also allows members to post comments as well as follow their friends. Thirdly, Pandora also allows sharing of music and videos; a feature that is common in social networking sites. Fourthly, Pandora also allows members to interact privately if they want to exchange personal information through its instant messaging application. Pandora also allows audio and video chats which is based on the Gtk2 toolkit Graphical User Interface (GUI). Fifthly, has other applications that are common to social networking sites such allowing members to like posts or comments made by other members. Lastly, Pandora is based on a peer-to-peer network topology. It has no local or global center. Social networking sites are based on peer-to-peer network to enable one-to-one communication as well as group communication. Pandora accommodates both one-to-one networks and many-to-many networks also qualifies it as a social network.
