L’Avalon Cosmetics is going to complete ten years in the highly competitive cosmetics industry on March 31, 2015. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of L’Avalon, it was decided in the Board Meeting held on December 15, 2014 to create a communiqué for the stockholders to highlight the growth of the company and the way forward. The Board decided to commission a Power Point project for this purpose. The Business Analytics Wing was tasked to create a suitable presentation and for approval by the Board by March 15, 2015. Creating the Power Point presentation involves three distinct aspects – the overall theme, the content and the packaging. This memo seeks to highlight the progress made so far in creating the presentation, the challenges that remain and the suggested way forward.
Summary
The Power Point presentation to be emailed to the stockholders of L’Avalon is on schedule for production, save the video shoot of the CEO of L’Orion. A meeting with L’Orion is recommended to assuage them of any misgivings about a strategic partnership with L’Avalon. Should there be any hurdles, the video shoot of the CEO of L’Orion may be dropped in favor of a message from the CEO of L’Avalon. A decision to the effect is essential by February 20, 2015.
The theme of the presentation was brainstormed in the corporate headquarters in the third week of December 2014, and ‘Beauty is Not Skin Deep’ was selected as the overarching message for the presentation. It was decided to package the presentation as a story of a young female office-goer who is rushed for time. The beneficial effects of L’Avalon were to be described in the storyline. In the background, the financial information of the company would be flashed. A section on future growth would include an interview with the CEO of L’Orion, the company that is interested in a strategic partnership with L’Avalon.
According to plan, Dreamworks Inc., a video promotion company, has been hired to create a suitable video shoot. Dreamworks Inc. has selected a suitable model to highlight L’Avalon products. The model represents 95 percent of L’Avalon’s female target audience. Three videos of the model in office settings have been shot in downtown New York. The Finance Department has provided the necessary data to be used as overlays in the video.
Obstacles
Efforts have been made to set up a video shoot with the CEO of L’Orion. However, L’Orion has been non-committal on the dates. It is likely that L’Orion might be having second thoughts on a strategic partnership with L’Avalon, hence the hesitation to go ahead with the video shoot of their CEO.
Recommendation
The Power Point presentation is ready in draft form, apart from the section on the video shoot of the CEO of L’Orion. It is requested that a meeting be organized with L’Orion to assuage their misgivings on any aspects of the strategic partnership. Should there be second thoughts on the subject, it is recommended that the video shoot of the CEO of L’Orion be dropped from the presentation. Instead, we may incorporate a message from the CEO of L’Avalon indicating possible alternatives for the future. A decision in this regard is essential by the February 20, 2015, so that the Power Point presentation can be finalized in time.
