Public relation is one of the main aspects in the business world today. One wonders what public relations is about. This paper seeks to define in detail public relations. Public relations can be defined as communication and transmission of information that is mutually beneficial between the public and an organization. PR has a long history dating back to 18th century.
PR was made popular by the introduction of the interment. It plays a critical role in making sure that a company is in good terms with the public it serves. The public good will is important to company since it is the public that keep the company or an organization running. For example, the public provides labour and market for the company or organization. The company has to participate in Cooperate social responsibility (CSR). For this reason, therefore, the public must remain abreast of the problems facing the public as wells its opinions (Shri.N.Palaniappan and Shri.A.M.Ramachandraiah, n.d). A bad image would destroy the reputation of the company and may hurt its profits (“Public Relations 101: Understanding and Using the Tools,” n.d). However, there are no PR libraries in colleges or standardized testing and there is no rigid requirement for getting a job. For example, in 2011, when Alibaba was faced by negative criticism, Yun Ma—the CEO of Alibaba as the PR sent the internal mail that restored its reputation.
There are various disciplines in PR. For example, media relations that aims in maximizing interest between organizations and the media (“Public relationships’” n.d). In media relations, PR involves more than just keeping the reputation in order but also participates in advertising the good and services of the organizations or company. In general. PR is beneficial in that it keeps the business environment interns of allocation and stakeholders in good terms for mutual benefits.
