Good Tango Nuevo & Neo Tango Essay Example
Astor Piazzolla is been considered to be the father of new style of tango which was a revolutionary gender that included classical music and jazz rhythms into the classical tango music which lead to the creation of this new gender that was called Tango Neuvo.
The major contribution that Astor Piazzolla brought to the tango was the sophisticated manner in which he managed to combine classical music with tango. He formed an octet orchestra which had different instruments comparing with the traditional group of players normally used for a tango band. His Buenos Aires Octet was formed from two bandoneons, two violins, a double bass, a cello, a piano and an electric guitar. After he experienced this formula in some concerts he narrowed it to only five people, a formula that he found it to be the most appropriate and which he kept all his life. The formula was bandoneons, piano, violin, electric guitar and contrabass.
Another interesting fact brought by Piazzolla to tango is that he changed the meaning of tango. Piazzolla made a music that wasn’t composed for dancing but to be listening in concerts. It is impossible to not by drawn by Piazolla’s music because it has a powerful sense of rhythms and new sound effects that give the music a special timbre combined with the dramaturgy of the melodic line.
Neo-tango music is the newest kind of gender that emerged from tango and it appeared around year 2000. The difference between neo-tango and Tango Nuevo is the country from there it’s came from. Neo-tango derives from the Europe and America especially, and not from Argentina as Tango Nuevo has its roots. Also the style of dance is different, because neo-tango is a fusion between other dances that include new steps, combinations and embraces different from the traditional tango. As an example, neo-tango has an extended step that seems to be almost like a leap. The dress code not include elegant and sparkle dresses but rather baggy pants, a dress code barrowed from “hip” movement. Neo-tango includes two highly experimental sub-genres: tango fusion and non-tango or alternative tango. The characteristic of the style are the combinations between contemporary tango and a lot of other new modern music types such as rock, ethnic sound, jazz, house, techno and dance club.
The only things that remain in common with other kinds of non-tango music that I listen are the refined and challenging rhythms in comparison with salsa or bachata and sometimes can be the Latino music melody which came with a sense of sensuality and passion, specific for this type of music and for Latino people with “sangre caliente.” The only common things that all the tango genres have in common is the walkable, consisted tempo that should always be the 4/4 unmistakable tango beat.
The controversy that surrounds Tango Nuevo is that it was considered to be a style of a form of dance with isn’t totally true, the term Tango Nuevo being rather the sums of all the changes that happened with tango during the last thirteen years not being only a style or a form of dancing. Tango Nuevo is the termed that describe how tango develop, grow, improved and enrich itself. I think a lot of people make this confusion sparking a chain reaction regarding the use of this term.
