Netiquette means network etiquette. It means following a certain set of rules while communicating over the internet. It incorporates the best practices to be followed while interacting online so as to maintain basic courtesy and accomplish effective communication.

Dos and Don’ts of Netiquette

tHERE ARE CERTAIN GROUND RULES WHEN IT COMES TO MAINTAINING NETWORK ETIQUETTE. tHEY ARE AS LISTED BELOW.
tREAT THE FELLOW NETIZENS IN MANNER AS YOU WANT THEM TO TREAT YOU. uSE POLITE AND COURTEOUS WORDS AND NEVER BE OFFENSIVE. uSE SIMPLE AND CLEAR LANGUAGE SO THAT THE MESSAGE IS NOT MISINTERPRETED ON THE OTHER SIDE.
rESPECT TIME AND BANDWIDTH OF FELLOW NETIZENS . dO NOT MAIL OR MESSAGE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO AND WHEN YOU HAVE TO, KEEP THE CONVERSATION SHORT AND TO THE POINT. dO NOT MARK COPIES TO PEOPLE UNLESS IT IS ACTUALLY RELEVANT TO THEM.
sTAY AWAY FROM SPARKING FLAME WARS AS THEY CAN BE OFFENSIVE, UNFAIR AND ARE AN UNWARRANTED EXPLOITATION OF BANDWIDTH.
rESPECT THE PRIVACY OF OTHERS .

Other Aspects of Netiquette

There are certain aspects of netiquette that I was unaware of. I have made a list of such aspects which is as follows.
Behaving in the cyberspace in the same manner as we behave in real life. Since we can be anonymous in the cyberspace does not mean that we can behave waywardly. We need to follow the same set of rules on the net as we follow in real life scenarios.
Forgive the mistakes of others . Not all netizens are experts and are prone to making mistakes. Do not point out their mistakes publicly or in a disrespectful or rude manner. If need be, make them aware of their mistakes in a polite tone using private mail.
