Good Women In Criminal Justice Essay Example
In my opinion, the film is exceptional and exclusive in the manner in which it depicts the occurrences in the juvenile justice system. Throughout the movie, Antoinette sets a good example on how parents can love and support their children without making excuses. This part is very educational. Despite the awfully difficult circumstances, Antoinette ensures that Shanae, her daughter, is supported until she recovers. Eventually, Shanae achieves success compared to Megan, who ends up charged and sent to prison again as Shanae enrolls in College. I also love how events unfold in the documentary. Later in the film, viewers realize that Megan's mother had been charged with prostitution and drug abuse. Also, while Shanae’s mother is a single parent and a caring mother who goes against all odds to fully support the recovery of her child. In these two scenarios, we learn that parents are very influential in our lives, and they determine our progress in life.
The documentary indicates the patterns in Shanae’s and Megan’s life histories that fit with offending. For instance, Antoinette is a single mother who worked in two jobs so that she could support Shanae. Unfortunately, this meant that she had no time to supervise and spend most time with Shanae. In the process, Shanae engaged herself in alcoholism and had unprotected sex at the age of eleven. During this period, she stabs a friend who dies on the spot, the reason she is sent to prison. On the other hand, Megan’s mother was a frequent lawbreaker, charged with prostitution and drug trafficking. Megan is influenced by the behavior of her mother as she becomes naughty and a nuisance to the law.
