I have read the article “Happiness: Enough Already” by Sharon Bergely and I, personally, found it rather good. Firstly, because it is easy and interesting to read. Secondly, it contains points of views of different authors. Thirdly, its information is useful for everyone. Let us sort out the details.
This article is a big enough, it contains more than 1000 words but nevertheless I have read it in one breath. This article is structures logically and clear to the audience. You are not feeling bored while reading. The reader’s attention is all the time caught. There are some terms and specific words but they are well explained and not make the article very scientific and difficult to understand.A good article is those, which is based on plural researches and sources. This article is one of them. Only in 1000 words we can be acquainted with different authors such as Ed Diener and his book “Rethinking happiness”, Eric Wilson - “Against happiness”, Allan Horwitz with his “The loss of sadness” and many others. All these authors stated, that to be happy all the time is not so good as it seems. People MUST feel sad and melancholic sometimes in order to experience all the aspects of human feelings. Being sad teach people how to struggle, make them stronger and hardier. Moreover, people who feel some discontent are more ambitious and feel more eager to changes. Just imagine what could it be like if everyone feel 100 percent happy?! There will be no progress because everybody will be satisfied with all the things are going on. It is a well-known fact, that most artists created their masterpieces in the period of melancholy. Sadness can be named the muse of the art. Best poems were written because of the unrequited love, the most significant ideas came to those, who were on the edge. Happiness make people blind while sadness make us more receptive. Even the nature feel melancholy. We can say that autumn and winter are the kinds of melancholy for the nature, when it sleeps, is passive and keep silence. Every person will find the information in the article very useful and can implement it in his life. Our society is oriented on happiness in all the aspects of the life. We are used to seek happiness and cheer each other. This article shows another side. Sometimes we should just stop to make our life happier and happier and as a result we will become more satisfied with ourselves. There are such situations, when people do not want to be happy and they are not to be insisted on being them. When we suffer real loss, it is more dangerous to mute sorrow rather than to allow ourselves to focus on bad feelings. This article insist that being sad is not a shame.
Together with it positive aspect, this article contains negative ones. What I found unfear is the criticism of Salesman positive philosophy. To my mind this man did a lot for the new understanding of people well-being and I think that his theory deserves respect maybe with some assumptions. What is more, I think that the whole spirit of the article is too dismal. I would recommend to add some more positive promise to the audience. Otherwise, some may chose overall sadness for his life.
