Though being modern and developed, our society has a lot of social problems especially with health preservation. People who have infection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) need special care and attention. After having defined the diagnosis, patients should receive a special medical therapy and monitoring about how this therapy influences on them.
A great role in this monitoring plays pharmaceutical care responsible for giving advice to the patients in combination of remedies, effective health impact and improvement of patient’s condition. HIV-infected patients have the prescription for so-called antiretroviral agents, the purpose of which is to suspend the virus extension to other organs, as well as the whole body. It is also important to have a professional control of drug-drug interaction between antiretroviral agents and other drugs for systemic medication. The statistics show that those patients who are cared by pharmacists have better treatment results as they receive not only recommendations, but also support (Pharmacytimes.com).
In many countries there are special places where pharmacists can cooperate with the HIV-infected patients: privately and government managed clinics, hospices, outpatient pharmacies, health care organizations, etc. Besides, there are different categories of patients who require individual approach: children, adults, military veterans, various socioeconomic groups. In such cases pharmacists should also communicate with the representatives of other social organizations: volunteers, physiologies, psychiatrists, social workers, and of course with family members (Pharmacytimes.com).
At the same time performing their duties, pharmacy employees should be very careful in serving the patients and broaden their knowledge of preventing the transmission of HIV and progression it to AIDS.
Thus, pharmacists have a great number of responsible functions and the most important one is to see that their help relates back with at least the smallest positive result.
