How Would You Describe Tap Dance To A Person Who Has Never Seen It Before? Essay
Tap dancing is a kind of dance where people move in special shoes. The shoes have special little metal panes glued to the toes. That way, when a person steps with the shoe, we hear a sound a lot louder and more distinct than just a person thumbing their foot down. By moving their ankles and feet correctly, tap dancers create what could be described as a beat. It is as if small drums are being played very quickly. Tap dancers move extremely quick and when dancing together, they can create great beats to listen to.
Tap dancing is more than just the sound that is made. One may seem that the dancers only concentrate on making their feet sound just right, but that is not all. These are performers and the audience is there not only listening, but also watching. Consequently, tap dancers also have to look good while dancing. While there is a limit of freedom they can have in the feet, their hands, head and the rest of the body is at their full disposal. Quite often, they spread their hand out while moving one way or the other across the stage. Their head may be tilted one way or the other depending on the move and a smile is usually present.
Thus, tap dancing is a combination of sound and dance. Dancers not only produce a special energetic beat but also do it while looking good on stage. Their hands and head help them make the dance even more pleasant.
