In this paper, the hypothesis relied on was the hypothesis C that stated that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been successful in drawing the terrorists away from the American homeland. Therefore, this is the reason US has not been attacked again.
In my view, this is a declarative hypothesis. The supposition is based on the course book and the general definition of declarative hypothesis. A declarative hypothesis emerges when the statement is positive about the outcome of the research or the study. Such a hypothesis can be correctly regarded as a surety based on the formulations and the reasoning of the researcher if correct. It describes a relationship between variable and the outcome the researcher expects.
The hypothesis reads as such, “The wars in Afghanistan have succeeded in drawing the jihadists away from the U.S homeland. Such a statement is clearly declaratory and states the expected results as conclusive rather than a hypothesis. The hypothesis describes the relationship between the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan and the reduced or no attacks on U.S homeland. The hypothesis is then further backed by assumption that are provided and the supporting evidence. The key assumptions are that the American campaigns in both Afghanistan have resulted in the attacks on the homeland being mutually exclusive with attacks on coalition forces. In addition, the hypothesis also relies on the assumption made that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have resulted in more jihadists dead than those created. The assumptions are supported by various facts including use of Iraq as a recruitment tool by the jihadists, the number of terrorists killed, and the fact that the jihadists, who would otherwise be attacking American homeland, are kept busy in Iraq and Afghanistan. On the other hand, contradicting evidence is also present that may weaken this hypothesis. Mainly, the attacks have continued elsewhere such as Europe and around the globe. Also, the jihadists are not limited to a specific number that can be reduced. They regularly recruit more thus increasing their numbers. Furthermore, the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq may have radicalized and even greater number of Muslims into jihadist groups.
In conclusion, I believe that this hypothesis was suitable for research especially in the specific topic under which it fell. The hypothesis will provide a proposition upon which it can be tested for its veracity.
