The artist of American descent is a wood sculptor born at Altadena, California in 1946. He obtained his B.A and M.A respectively in 1969 and 1971 respectively at California State University at Long Beach. Currently, he is professional in fine art furniture. He has the ability of shaping and designing cabinets while he mixes it with imagery. His exceptional work has led to obtaining different honorary awards such as the National Endowment for Arts Award, Distinction Award from The Furniture Society of America, and others. One can view some of his collection from different museums in Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and California where he works.
As a professional artist, he doubles up as a lecturer at Saddleback College in California. He has been teaching in that school since 1976. In that school, he teaches two and three-dimensional design. In a series drapery of three chairs, he says that each chair combines two-dimensional inlaid images to establish three-dimensional furniture. The purpose of the artist is to devise fully functional furniture. The artist inspiration comes from Popeye cartoons, iconography, and Japanese blocks. The quality of the artists always works appears illusionary. Wendell Castle influenced the sculptor to modern woodworking. Most of his early work largely consisted of aesthetic sculptural anthropomorphic forms. The influence of the popular culture led the artist to employ American design together with fractured images to display a disjointed image that resemble cubism figurine.
I find the artist an established illusionist of pictorial effect. He seems to ignore reality tenets in design like other mainstream woodwork designers. All of his works has a tonne of imagery and deception. His artwork goes hand in hand with the California culture that likes imagery. His combination of wood with flat imagery leads to the creation of a visual surface
