Dear Residency Program Director:

I am intent on being a resident at ABC Firm. I am knowledgeable about your organization, and have particular interest in XXXX. I believe that my experience, demeanor and drive will mesh well with ABC Firm. In this letter of intent, I will outline my experience and skillset with the aim of demonstrating my suitability to join ABC Firm as a pharmacy resident.
I have a passion for pharmacy that has been acquired through eclectic experiences in the US and abroad. I hold a Bachelor degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (King Saud University, Saudi Arabia) and will complete my PharmD in 2015 from South Carolina College of Pharmacy (SCCP). By the time I graduate, I will have completed 12 rotations or placements, as outlined in my CV.
I am drawn to Pharmacy primarily as a means to help people heal. The person to person interaction I have experienced is truly gratifying and meaningful. I observed this through my community rotations in Chicago, and Charleston, and experienced this directly as a professional pharmacist in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In combination, this work has included outpatient and inpatient coverage, and in hospital and OTC pharmacy settings.
In addition to my experience working with patients, I have engaged in other areas of pharmaceuticals. This has included clinical and ambulatory care, research and teaching/mentorship. In regards to research, I conducted a study to understand Vitamin D deficiency among young females in Saudi Arabia, and the impact of pharmacodynamics targets on Staphylococcus aueus. I presented the Pharmacodynamics work at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting in California, 2014. In the classroom context, I acted as a teaching assistant in a second year laboratory course at SCCP. I also served as a mentor for new pharmacists for neonatal and pediatric care in Riyadh.
My range of experiences in the pharmacy profession have been purposeful and methodical. My career pathway in the pharmacy profession is to become a clinical pharmacist in an academic medical center. In this context, I hope to engage in my three interests of teaching, research and practice in pharmaceuticals. I believe ABC Firm is the ideal residency placement for me to pursue these interests.
I come with two years professional experience, and a range of internship placements that have covered research and practice in multiple contexts. I look forward to deepening my understanding and strengthening my abilities as a resident at ABC Firm.
