The chapters addressed by the authors in both books are how a leader can develop an ethical style. The chapter also examining the resolution of public ethical conflict using unified ethic (Geuras & Garofalo, 2011). All these point towards the essence of leadership and ethics and the importance of adopting ethical leadership for any public official. From recent developments in the workplace, the ethical role played by leaders has come into sharp focus. The leader has to ensure that they play major roles apart from providing leadership. They must also be a moral guide for people working under them. The first chapter talks about developing an ethical style, and leaning to analyze any problems that might arise. There are going to be many reactions by workmates about a leader’s ethical style. Some employees will agree with the ethical style and others will be opposed. This chapter enables a leader to identify any problems that may arise because of the ethical style (Geuras & Garofalo, 2011).
The next chapter talks about settling these disputes using the unified ethics theory. The chapter on transformational leadership shows that the role of the leader is more as compared to leading people in the workplace. Through their actions, leaders should be able to inspire other employees to aspire to be like the leader. The leader should be a role model to the employees. Servant leadership entails leading through service (Northouse, 2010). As a leader, the person should not expect employees to work for him; rather the leader should work for his employees. Both these books try to explain the changing roles of leaders in organizations. The books also show the importance of leaders changing with the times and embracing these new roles towards their employees.
