Christian Zionists in the United States, the Jewish Emigration Movement in the Soviet Union and the Islamic Jihad in Afghanistan were all dedicated to defeating the Soviet Union, which did not allow Soviet Jews to emigrate to Palestine. When this statement is viewed and analyzed it would not appear to make much sense for these groups to work together or even to have common goals. In fact, what was really occurring was each group seeking to pursue their own self interests. This could only be accomplished without the Soviet Union in the way. Therefore, it became imperative for each group to contribute or support the downfall of the Soviet Union.
In reviewing the power point presentation and the Youtube video of Hilary Clinton, it becomes blatantly obvious the Soviets were a major impediment to the Islamic Jihadists because their goal was to rule Afghanistan from their own power base. The American government actually armed these individuals and trained them to fight against the Soviets. Obviously, this directly resulted in the events of 9/11 and ultimately was not a wise decision as Clinton pointed out. The United States, however, wanted to end the Cold War and stop the spread of communism. The Soviets were their primary rival for world power. The Christian Zionists and Jewish Emigration groups wanted religious freedoms for their organizations. None of these groups really thought about what would happen if the Soviet Union were defeated and there was
a power vacuum in the area. With terrorism becoming a very real daily threat in today’s world, these organizations and the United States should have pursued their goals in another way, or at least one that was more constructive.
